I am going with work for a couple of nights and there seems to be two groups of hotels, one in the town centre and one by the sea.....has anyone been who can advise the best area to stay in?

Depends what you're looking for: the centre round the big church "Grote kerk" is near the shops and the night life.

Scheveningen (the beach) has less night life at this time of the year, is cold and windy and has no shops to speak of, although it does have a multiscreen cinema and casino.

Holland is a great place. The people are really nice and considering it's so densly populated it's very pleasant. I worked there for 2 years so got to know it very well unlike those that visit just for a weekend.
