I'm a Brit resident in the US, but there is one question that I don't really want to ask people here as it may offend or pee 'em off.
So.....why do Americans prefer to trace their heritage back to the Mayflower to those of Jamestown.
The Mayflower was full of religious misfits, whereas Jamestown were explorer entrepreneur types.

The people of Jamestown were a bit too 'British colonist' to worship when trying to build patriotism for a new separate nation. The Mayflower lot, despite being weirdoes fit into the plan better, as long as you pretend they sailed straight from Plymouth to the new world as if on a mission from God and ignore the fact that actually they didn't know where they were really going and wandered off to Holland first for a bit, as most Americans do! biggrin

Cheers,
I didn't know they stopped over in Holland for a bit of shopping. That does explain the consumer led economy.
