Roast, yummy, par-boiled and fluffy then into piping hot fat not oil, wait till crispy on the outside, rock salt. 10am and I am so hungry.

Whilst Dauphinoise are superior in many ways, they tend to dominate the plate of food. Something so special about the perfect roast potato and the way they blend with the other ingredients, the gravy, the meat, perhaps a hint of horseradish from the beef...

I voted mashed.

As a comfort food, it is unequalled. And with a little butter and some mustard, it can be sensational; done well, a bowl of good mashed potato is a meal in itself.

Another vote for mashed, here. Nowhere to hide! You should put it in your mouth and think "Hmmm, fluffy potatoes"

Not knocking roast/rosti/chips, I love them too. But, 'simplest' is the best.

Try it, honestly, its worth doing.

Remember the old Ready Brek adverts where children went off to bleak looking Northern Mills with a glow about them?

Well you get a similar glow from the king of mash but its more like the glow you'd get from wandering into Sellafield.

I had to abstain from the vote.
It depends on the potato & occasion. ie New pots with a hint of mint are no good with battered fish, on the way home from the pub frown Chips would not go with roast beef.(well maybe a roast beef sarnie)
Do potatoes count as a portion of veg?
(Red wine is one of my 5 a day, well it is grapes)
