what about the PH themed chimaera?
the weirdest one i've seen was on a documentary when i was a kid. i can't remember what it was and google isn't helping, but it was a multicoloured lobster-esque thing that had a pair of arms/claws/clubs that it used to bludgeon its pray to death. they were tucked up behing its front arms/claws and it'd sneak up to its pray, knock them out, and start eating.

Mantis shrimp!They can break aquarium glass with those clubs, despite only being a few inches long...

A while back I read that sonar operators have recorded non seismic very low frequency noises down in the deep ocean that they are sure are animal generated. They extrapolated the size of the animal by comparing to the frequency and size of african elephants' rumbles and concluded that the rumblers were VERY large ie bigger whale size and then some. There's something down there people

Not strictly true, I have kept 4 species so far and none have come close. I am aware of the stories though I think if you put them in a tank with 3mm glass and put a prey item on the other side they might get through !! And the O.S. Mantis is the one the stories are about IIRC, they get to 6-8" long. Also, the strike is, IIRC, the FASTEST animal movement on earth. You don't actually see it, it's that fast...... You just hear the noise of the impact on the cockle...They can break aquarium glass with those clubs, despite only being a few inches long...
There are sooo many stunning sea creatures, it never ceases to amaze me.
