Had the Monaro at Vauxhall on Wednesday to diagnose a whine from the engine bay most noticeable at idle, and they think it's the front bearing on the supercharger. Apparently though, because of the delicate ballance on the shaft they're not able to do the work themselves, and they only deal with Wilkinshaw for superchargers, not Wortec. I've tried emailing Wortec, but nothing heard as of yet.

Does anyone know if these things are prone to terminal failure if they continue to be used? Noise is quite loud now at idle, so I'm trying not to drive it.

Just wondering really how to get my supposedly warranteed VXR500 healthy again!

When you say supercharger bearings im guessing that we are talking about the bearings on the transfer shaft as opposed to the supercharger proper?

If its "in" the supercharger, then indeed, stop driving now, if its the transfer shaft, then its more of an irritation than real problem.

Just wanted to post to thank Paul again for getting back to me so quickly after I posted here. Hopefully off to DAP in Manchester some time soon.

Monkfish, I'm afraid my technical knowledge lets me down here, I can't really answer that question. The tech at Vauxhall seemed satisfied that the car was safe to drive the hour back home, so I'm guessing it's the less significant set. I would hope lol.
