The XJ Jag is often advertised as the greenest luxury barge in the market. We have an XJ which we bought in the UK and we will hopefully be registering it here in Ireland. Sadly it isnt a simple process as we have to pay something called VRT, I am not going to get into a discussion here on our VRT system here in Ireland, you can use google, but to cut a long story short the Irish Government want €24786 so we can register the car and then a further €2000 for road tax.
We cant get out of the road tax, but we are hoping to get the VRT dropped a bit if we can prove that the car should not fall in to the top band of emissions. The government have come up with a figure of 214g/km, but I am reckoning it may be a bit lower. Can anyone get a definite figure on the emissions?

Even at 209 it wont be much of a reduction.
Guess I`ll have to keep avoiding the local customs officers for another while.

209 g/km is for the latest 2009MY cars. Prior to that the 214 g/km figure you have been quoted is correct.

I have to admit I'm not up to speed on Irish taxation, but from what I can gather the XJ should be in band F (191-225 g/km. Tax is therefore 1050 Euros. When it was launched the XJ had best in class CO2 emissions at 214 g/km, but BMW improved the 730d to 210 g/km in about 2007 to pip it. The latest new (Nov '08) 730d has emissions of 192 g/km, but there's nothing that big that gets into a lower band.
