Bless Top gear.

Obviously needed plenty of footage of Jeremy in Dover as he travelled to France because twice they picture him driving away from the Seacat terminal. Or at least turning back after missing the correct roundabout exit.

Why do people like this one so much?

I find it one of the most contrived races imaginable: e.g. why did May/Hammond have to start in the middle of nowhere? why were they not allowed to use taxis? etc ...

Perhaps I over analyse these things ... but when it was first screened I lived about 10 minutes walk from Waterloo ... I think if they had started from my house at 5 pm on a Friday ... Clarkson would still have been in London when the others got to Monaco.

Thats a great episode, think most of the later races are too contrived.

For me the best episode ever was the original "Can you buy a Porsche for £1500", fantastic watched it with tears of laughter

As it is, it's one of my favourite episodes of the show, amazing! I fell in love with the DB9 all those years ago, and it's still my dream car.

Despite what I said about Jeremy doing laps of the main Dover drag for camera footage (clearly every second didn't count) I still love this race and want to own a DB9.

But they can make such good television without resorting to these absurdly-contrived-races-to-ensure-Clarkson-wins e.g. think of the Millau viaduct piece, probably the best piece of Top Gear ever.

As for the later races, they just got stupid.

Ohh that one. Yes, I have to admit, that one was fantastic. Absolutely brilliant episode, and sort of highlights why they have some of the best jobs in the world

For me, my favorite TG piece is an odd one; it's the one where Jeremy goes to Yorkshire to test the Jag XK Convertible against the 650i and the SL350. It's my favorite simply because of the absolutely stunning shots used in it, with that beautiful Jag winding it's way around those beautiful roads that look tlike they have been sprinkled on the mountains by God

I am sure I read in TG before they run the race for real and then go back again from the start to get the proper camera shots to make it look better but to ensure a fair result.
