I currently run my Ro alongside a Disco 3 and an Aygo. I am toying with the idea of trading in the Ro and Aygo for an Evo 9 FQ 360.
I know this is controversial to say the least but I would be pleased to hear your views. For some background, the Ro is only used weekends and the Aygo is my station car, a role the Evo would have to fill. The Disco is the family wagon.

This may seem like a stupid suggestion, but why don't you just use the Monaro for your everyday car and just sell the Toyota? I can't imagine the fuel consumption for the evo being much better than the 'ro?

I had a Evo vii FQ300 with 360HP for almost 4 years and it will do around 18mpg and needs servicing every 4,500 miles or 6 months. If you go out racing the country lane one sunner afternoon it will only do around 8mpg to 10 mpg.And because it only has a small petrol tank you will fill up more often. Also you need to replace the rear diff oil (AYC)on every 4,500 service if you drive it hard.
It will always wear out 4 tyres at a time at £125 a tyre which is cheep compaired to the Ro.
I do miss my Evo but love the Ro. When the Ro goes i will get another Evo.
The only reason i like my Ro is the sound. If it wasnt for that id have a new Evo any day
At the end of the day the Ro is only any good in a straight line its hard work trying to go around a roundabout at 70 mph but the Evo would.
And the best thing about a Evo is that its drivable in the wet when you want to put your foot down and go around bends in the wet with your foot to the floor.

The Evo 9 cos it's FQ and handles like nothing on earth.

Hear what you say on costs, but miles will be small (9 miles a day return trip to station) plus weekend blasts. Remember we will still have Disco which is also a great car which I like a lot. I gues I'm trying to rationalise my motors and get back to a proper drivers car. I love the Ro but if I can swap it out with the Aygo for an Evo it becomes very tempting.

I spent 2 seasons rallying an evo and have great memories. Fantastic cars, and IMO as rewarding as the Monaro in different ways.

Not quite the brilliant cruiser that the Monaro is, otherwise I'd consider one for normal daily use.

If the Monaro ever goes, I'd be more likely these days to have something like John R's Mad Audi RS6 Avant biggrin

I cant disagree with that, but there is the point though.

With time and money you can make most cars into whatever you want - but why bother when you have something (Evo in this case) that does it all out of the box? Modding is all well and good and you get exactly what you want, but the cost is in potential warranty issues, insurance costs, resale problems and the actual cost of doing it.

Why not just get a car designed as you want it in the first place?

I'd have to agree. Its more often than not easier to buy something that does exactly what you want, than try to mod what you have to suit.

By the same token, if I wanted to heavily mod my Ro, the first thing I would do would be to ask Roger/ Mark if they had any similar clients cars already done that might be for sale at the right price. Then sell mine. Could well be cheaper than starting again given the cost of parts and labour, and I'm more attached to the model of car than the specific car i have. Realise it doesn't work for everyone though...

good luck expecting the Evo to sit all day at a station and still be there when you get home at night, cant think of many railway carparks up here I'd want to leave it in all day. Between the Evo and a Scooby I always preferred the Evo but there are a couple of things to remember - every Burberry cap wearing chav will want to be your best mate or want to race you in their Evo III,IV,V,VI (delete as applicable). You will become "interesting" to the boys in blue and suddenly the number of random checks you get will increase as they check to see if its a)stolen b)you deal drugs c)tax is paid d)car is insured. Seriously the Evo and the Scooby just attract all the wrong kinds of attention.

Oh and for the poster about going round a roundabout at 70mph - you doing that on a public road isnt impressive, just means you drive like an ass - take it on track if you want to corner at those speeds, hopefully it'll be you than ends up on your roof and not some poor sod coming onto the roundabout thinking they've got right of way and that other cars will be slowing on approach!

very different cars in my opinion.I had the 5.7 vxr,and have a EVO X SST now.Like other evo's,stupidly small tank, and will only do 12mpg on short journey's.I spend a lot of time on forecourts. It doesn't get any more attention than the Monaro,or my VXR8.And the Evo X is 10,000 mile service intervals.

These things always come down to what YOU want the car to do. I'm another ex Evo owner, and the attention I get from passers by is probably a little more now with a black Monaro, than a white stand out and fairly loud Evo. I only really changed cars because the Evos don't come with 6ltr V8s. I had the Evo for about 2 years, and owned the Monaro now for a little less, but in terms of Police attention, in my experience anyway they seem much more interested in the Monaro!

I think most people argue that an Evo with the ACD and AYC isn't really a drivers car, but the grin factor achieved by the pace of the thing from A to B is massive.

I agree with you there... But when i road tested the New Evo V i had to turn on the stability control off which made it drive how i liked it. Just like my old Evo Vii with AYC on only.
I loved 4 wheel drifting around roundabouts late at night when the raod were empty.
I replaced 7 sets of tyres in 24,000 miles on mine thats how much fun i had in her lol

You would never get a Ro to handle like a Evo. There's nobody in the world who could hit a roundabout at high speed then give it a little flick when entering the roundabout, floor the throttle and 4 wheel drift it around and come out of the other side still alive.
Thats how i always drove mine, just like i nicked it lol. so much fun.

I think that's also one of the reasons I changed to the Monaro. Again, it all depends on what you want out of a car, but to get the most out of an Evo you have to drive it hard, and when you're driving it hard, you're going really REALLY fast, and I was getting to the stage where I felt I needed to calm down a bit lol.

At the end of the day it's your own decision, If you still keep the monaro and have an evo as well then you have the best of both worlds but being poles apart in terms of driving experience. In a way both cars are very rewarding to drive but be careful not to step straight out an evo into the monaro and try and do the same thing! driving
