First non pre meditated moment.. Driving down the A3 late'ish last night in the Griff and just re acclerating a tad in 4th gear after the first speed cam north bound: the back end suddenly lost traction and fish tailedeek, I immediately lifted off the gas and things straightened up but as wake up calls go : that was a good'un!

Three years ago in Germany, turning left at some lights the back end went after changing up to second.
What might have been a very embarrising spin in front of quite a large audience turned into a demo of drifting and changed from a butt clench to a big smile.

I new that one was coming about lifting offbiggrin .. it was in a straight line not in a corner and frankly keeping my foot firmly planted on the loud pedal in a moment like that was beyond my right foot's instinct to survive.

Just to keep on topic

Witnesses at the scene of the Ronaldo crash say he was only
lightly tapped by a car from behind, when all of the sudden the
car flipped over and rolled ten times. It then span around on
the spot for two minutes, then all the wheels fell off and it
caught fire.

I liked that.

I've always been taught that the last thing you want to do, and might ever possibly do, is to lift off when the back end goes walkabout.

I took a Tamora for a drive and pulled out to overtake a car and accelerated a little early. The back stepped out, the superb steering allowed me to catch it virtually without having to think about it, and I then passed the car, complete with its rather startled looking driver. Far from being butt-clenching, I felt just like I reckon those blokes who can really drive feel every day. Really cocky.

Having had my tuscan for 6 weeks, i was wondering what all the fuss was about them trying to kill you but i found out of Tuesday! Straight road, doing 50 decided to go for an overtake, big gap so didnt do anything silly, dropped to 4th, half throttle and it went sideways, for what seems like no reason. I kept my foot in and straightened it out and continued to overtake but it did get the heart going alittle faster than i would of liked. My work mate behind said it looked good but i would still rather it had not happened.

A bit like the last post, had my Tam for 6 weeks and was wondering is this car as quick I thought it was? so….. just had it serviced so knew all was OK, oil nice and hot straight bit of dual carriageway on the industrial estate coming off the roundabout, so cracked the taps open in second gear from about 30. Almost shi* myself yikes back end wiggled a bit then massive acceleration as I straightened out. Pure adrenaline rush, never driven a car before that delivers its power in such a brutal way now I understand why people love TVR so much.

Pity the weather is so poor at the moment, We all have very powerful cars and whilst we laugh as we reflect on ‘near misses’ some people aren’t so lucky as posts on PH have shown. It should also serve as a lesson to us all to dive sensibly so our P&J (and us!) stay in one piece.

Keep safe everyone!

To complete the story - Apparently the Ronaldo incident has been thoroughly investigated and McLaren have been fined £200k.

I think it depends how much power you have relative to the available grip. You definitely want to avoid getting into engine braking, but if the revs have flared up you need to get them back down to somewhere near road speed before you will get the lateral grip back. In slippery conditions with a powerful engine that can mean lifting off a long way.

Nothing of note in the T350 (maybe I'm older and wiser, or just possibly scared!)

But I had a decent fright in the Chimeara a few years ago. The nastiest junction I've ever seen, exiting a hotel somewhere on the south coast, you need to cross one side of a dual carriageway to turn right, very close to a big roundabout. So, you do it pretty quickly. Or, as my friend witnessed from the car behind, you leave a fifteen foot 'eleven' as the traffic bears down on you, before trying again in second!

It was impressive to watch, apparently, though at the time the only thought I had was "Why aren't we moving?"

2 for me both in my old Chimaera, first was finding out the hard way what happens when the diff locks due to engine braking - ended up facing the wrong way on a dual carriageway.
2nd was a perfectly sensible drive going round a wet (but greasy) left hander and the back decided to try leading for a while - fortunately I caught it but definitely a case of atad too much power when I didn't full ppreciate the conditions.

I'm glad my T350s off the road at present as I've got a diesel Audi A4 - far nicer to be driving at present.

Be careful out there all - especially any new owners. These cars can and do bite!

Similary had mine on the A3, but on the slip road onto m25 early one morning (slightly damp). Only had the car a few weeks, and was still getting used to it.

Unfortunate then that numpty driver in some kind of "maxed up" ford focus should want to closely inspect my rear number plate as I went down the slip road, giving it masseeev. "Right, I'm not having that!" said the irrational side of my brain, and in any case it was making me nervous how close he was, so I promptly sank said accelerator pedal and....."wwwoooah!" back end goes AWOL. Bear in mind that car was in a straight line, wheels straight etc. This was rather disconcerting.

You should have seen the look on the guys face as he backed right off. You should have seen the look on mine when I managed to reign the car back in (just). White as a sheet when I finished my journey.

Lesson learnt. Now treat every movement progressively, and don't give in to any temptation like above...just let it go.

That was four years ago so there you have it!

Mine was when the nearside rear wheel made a bid for freedom at 'high' speed on the dual carriageway. 3-wheeler handling was impressive though. (400SE)

Nothing particularly but clenching in my Tamora, but in previous Chim certainly clenched. Nothing to do with greasy roads as mentioned above, but was pushing on round some lanes, approaching 90 deg right hander, probably doing almost 60. Hit the brake, foot kept going, pumped again still nothing. Reflex action to grab for the handbrake and spun it into handbrake turn. Avoided anything hard, luckily nothing coming in the opposite direction! Heart was pumping very fast and cheeks were clenching like a bag pipe player!

A brake pipe had split, lost all pressure, almost like my arse!
