Anyone been to Mauritius?

My mrs is from Mauritius and has had to go back to the island for a month to sort out some family problems (nothing serious).
She is starting to make noises about us moving there in septmeber for a few years. Visas are no problem for me obviously but i've never been, and won't have the chance to go before september due to other commitments.
So do i leave recession hit blighty for somewhere i've never been?
I know that its a honey moon destination and they drive on the right but thats about it!

I looked into going to Maritius a few years back on a VSO placement. WHen I looked into it at the time, I was amazed and just how built up some of it was (didnt expect it at all) and how poor it was.
I was also told quite quickly that they didnt need me skillset there, so moved on.

holes.I went on holiday there for a friends wedding, found it looked amazing. But nothing much for tourists beyond the hotels. Living there may be different? Couldn't comment.
Overlooking how idyllic it looks, it is still a very poor country. What sort of job do you intend on doing if you move out there? Outside of tourism and farming there doesn't seem like much else.
Not a huge amount to do in the towns, but if you like your watersports that would pass a lot of spare time.

It's essentially a third world poverty stricken country, with some flash hotels/resorts thrown in for the tourists. Industry is based on textiles & sugar cain.
It however a very nice country, some lovely roads (in places) its not huge but big enough to occupy yourself for a while. However if your into watersports, sailing, cycling & general outdoor stuff you'll love it.
Cars are interesting!! lots of old skool Britmobiles about & lots of petrolheads too though on a budget. I think import taxes are high or for new cars something similar, so worth checking up on.
Don't forget its DAMN hot in the summer season like 40 plus which is almost unbearable, so I'd suggest to wangle an off season as part of the deal
