Setting up my Humax PVR....
Discussion
Morning all,
Bought a Humax PVR basically as i wanted to record TV and all you guys said it was good!
The TV i'm running it through however already has freeview built in....
At the moment - i've got the ariel running into the PVR and then PVR scarted to the TV - this means i have to use the PVR as the freeview source.
Is there anwyay i can also use the tv's digital recpetion so in effect i could record two channels and also watch a third (different) one? - Woudl i just need to split the arial and run one into the TV as well and that would let me use it as an alternative source?
Cheers
Dan

sorry to hijack but could you make a device that records the signal from the aerial, and then play it back? so you could record all the channels in one go?
Its always bugged me that question, I never knew who to ask though.
It's certainly possible i would think, but the amount of data would be enormous. Its always bugged me that question, I never knew who to ask though.
Not sure what the total number of channels and radio stations on freeview is but certainly over 100. So you would need near 100 times the capacity to record everything at once.

If you run it uncompressed you could probably record alot more but this will put far more load on the HD... so either CPU will limit you, or hard disk speeds.
We shot a corporate film last week and it took a Dual Core PC with SCSI drives to take live streaming (uncompressed) HD from a Sony HD Camera with sound. For about 8 minutes of film to promote our software products, it used 120GB of space on the editors PC (with various takes).
