Bit of a long shot but maybe there's someone on here who might know why the water coming from my hot taps smells odd. It's a sort of faint musty, metallic smell and you can smell it on your hands after washing them. Only downstairs taps have this phenomenon.

Could there be something wrong with the hot water tank or the pipes?

You may want to have a look in you water tank in the loft. Something could have crawled in there and then died. Quite common i'm told.

Well I did wonder if something had died in the tank but surely that would affect all the hot water in the house not just downstairs.

Luckily I don't live near a volcano. wink

does that tap get used a lot?

sounds like there is some corrosion going on in the pipes or the tap

How’s the hot water heated?

If it’s by gas then there is a heat exchanger inside the tank. Hot water in the central heating system gets pumped around it. If it were to spring a leak then the water from the central heating system could enter the hot water supply.

As the central heating system is a closed circuit, it usually has a corrosion inhibiting chemical in it.

Of course, it’s more likely that your wife is after your life insurance. hehe
