Little Britain seems to be winning lots of awards and has its own American spin-off but IMO a lot of it depends on grossing out.

Stuff like the Fast Show and even Dead Ringers are much better [again IMO]. Here are a couple of blinders;

At the moment....

Has to be "30 Rock"!

Comedy to be great , has to be based on something plausible. Therefore the BBC is COMPLETELY ruled out hehe

Spaced is pretty good.

Though I do like a Arrested Development, Scrubs, My Name is Earl.

They're a bit good.

Most of the current stuff is garbage IMO. Strangely, the funniest series I remember were all BBC based...

Red Dwarf
Brittas Empire
Fast Show
Harry Enfield & Chums

And does anyone else remember the Mary Whitehouse Experience? I've got vague recollections of Baddiel & Skinner doing side-splittingly funny improv along the lines of "See that cow pat over there? That's your new shoes, that is" laugh

OK, it was funnier at the time!

Scrubs at the moment.

A good mix of the humerous and the serious.

Oh man this is the thread for me.... Just passed 150 comedy series on DVD. I really could write for hours on this subject but I'll bore everyone...

After years of deliberation I can say this.

Best Sitcom Ever: Tie Father Ted and Peep Show

Best Sketch Show: Fast Show

Best Cartoon Show: South Park

I would say that to get some of the very best sketches and moments though you need to look to Alan Partridge.

Partridges Best moment: Footbal Comentary on World Cup '94 (The Day Today)

Also here are some more alternate comedies that everyone should watch:

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia
Nathan Barley
The Day Today
Summer Heights High
Arrested Development
Operation Good Guys
Garth Merenghi's Darkplace

I'll leave it at that (must resist urge to go on and on)

I have to very strongly disagree, I don't know how much of South Park you have seen (it's currently on series 12) but I'm sure it is better than Family Guy.

South Park has been consistently funnier over a much longer period of time. The re-birth after Series 4 made it one of the best shows on TV, it has constatly been inventive and also thought provoking, while always laugh out loud funny.

I love Family Guy too.... But Series 5 was absolutely rubbish and although series 6 & 7 have been better the whole thing is starting to feel tired and disjointed.
