I've just walked out of one of the dental practices I work out at in disgust, I was due to finish soon anyway, but I'm totally boiling!

When I went to the interview I was told that I'd earn 40% of what I'd made the company during the day, which was great, that the place is really busy, really enthusiastic and very "people" orientated.

When I started I found out from another hygienist that I wouldn't actually be getting 40%, I'd be getting a guaranteed minimum payment for the first 3 months, not a bad wage but certainly not what I was expecting.
I spoke to the principal who assured me I wouldnt be on it long and as soon as my diary filled up I could move onto the 40%.

Anyway, I started work and some days I wouldn't see ANY patients and end up sat in the tea room all day.
I raised my concerns with the principal and again assured me things would pick up, he said if I wanted to pop out and do some shopping that was OK.

One of the receptionists didnt like this and confronted me in front of all the other staff and threatend to have my pay cut, I suggested she spoke to the principal who agreed that I could go out.

Anyway, 2 months down the line, I'm still not seeing any patients, 5-6 on a VERY busy day rolleyes so I handed in my notice.

I've just found out today that the same receptionist has been submitting the hours I have actually seen patients to head office and ensuring thats all I get paid for. Rather than the guarenteed payment, this has only been happening since I handed my notice in.

The guaranteed payment is meant to be a retainer, because they can't provide patients to keep me busy.

I just want the money they agreed to pay me. frown

I'm about to write to the principal, does anyone have any suggestions please?

Thanks smile

Have I got this wrong...? You'd sooner be paid 40% of nothing than have a guaranteed minimum? Sorry if I'm being a bit thick.....confused

Run them over with your bike

If you need help let me know , you can have two.

Sound like a receptionist who thinks shes a dentist or thinks the money is coming out of her pocket.

Slap her.

Sorry, thats not what I mean.

They have been docking the GMP to match the hours I have seen patients. But ONLY since I handed my notice in.

Before I told them I was leaving, the GMP was a daily rate!

Better? smile

Just write a simple letter stating the receptionist has not posted the correct figures. It is not he/her who will have any say in the matter.

What does your employment contract say about payment while on notice?

Do you have anything in writing regarding the guaranteed payment? It almost seems that they are working to rule now you have handed your notice in i.e you were contracted to get 40% of the bill of each patient seen and that is what you are now getting.

If you have nothing in writing to explain the GMP, its length of payment, conditions of payment etc, then I can't really see where you can go with this.

Write a straightforward letter to the principle explaining the facts and see what they come back with.

I have a contract stating that I will be paid GMP for 3 months, no mention of while on notice.

Thanks Denise, I'll look ACAS up smile

There may not be an employment contract as such if the OP is an associate (classed as self-employed0
