For those of you replacing your interior or are the process of ripping out the the carpet. i came across this while I'm doing research on lightweight noise dampening (general road noise) and dispersing the masses of heat in summer! i came accross this:

http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com
which gives a good review of all sound & heat deadening available - I'm going to be laying this on my doors and transmission tunnel foot well etc. i understand there's going to be some weight gained, but the comfort and inprovement on long journeys is worth it. I'm starting with he doors first to see how they compare before the main shell.

apologies to anyone who just fitted their carpets and now wishes they added some around the gearbox/exhaust area.

cheers
Dean

I'm busy with the oily bits at the mo but have one eye on my interior and that seems like a good product to replace the rather tatty looking insulation in the footwells...

Cheers

just wanted to add, from reading it all, for heat weight and performance the B-quiet ultimate seemed the best fit.

Thanks for that link, very interesting, it has some good advice in it.

I’m no expert, but I don’t think you will get the same results with a fibreglass car that he got with a steel bodied car. The Cerb has very thick fibreglass which by virtue of its mass will resist those resonant vibrations much more than steel.
I’ve had BMWs for years & just got used to the sound proofing they have as standard, but when I got my Nissan 200SX I got a rude reminder what normal cars sound like, it’s much louder on the motorway than the Cerb is. The Cerb struggles to pass 105dB noise tests, the Nissan is just a lowly 86dB, but sounds so much louder in side the car.
Try his test, give the cerb door skin a good tap with you knuckle & try the same with a cheapo car you’ll hear a hell of a difference. I’m not saying it’s not worth doing, just I don’t think you’ll see the stunning results he talks of. Also I’d imagine getting the mat to stick to the rough inside of the fibreglass in the doors could be problematic, cleaning it up would be hard & it may just fall off after a short time – I could be wrong on that one though.
You should better results with the transmission tunnel using the absorption materials he was talking about.
Having a de-cat reduces the heat a lot too…

Good luck with the refit, hope you’ve got somewhere warm to work!
