Can anyone recommend good roads near the Llandow circuit? ...or East of there heading back to the M4?

Anyone? smile Surely some PHers have been to South Wales?

Parents 5 minutes up the road from Llandow, hence know the roads quite well - What kind of roads are you looking for, twisty country roads, quiet roads, or fast (within the prescribed speed limits of course)?

Either really. Twisty is always good, but providing there's the width and the visibility to make the most of it.

We probably won't spent too much time around the circuit itself, so any roads that provide a good link to the M4 (coming from the east the previous day) or indeed up towards the Brecon Beacons (off exploring the following day) would be particularly good, but really anything that's fun. smile

I race on the kart track at Llandow and live nearby. There are some fairly fun b roads in the vale of glamorgan and surrounding area but their all fairly short and unless its very early or very late chances are you'll just keep getting stuck behind people doing about 45 mph!
Best bet is to aim north for the beacons I'd say.

Any particularly entertaining ways of getting there? Possibly staying in Mamhilad if that acts as a good waypoint?

Glad to hear it. Discovered a great little BnB (with a superb pub down the road) when I was there mountain biking last year, so I think we'll base the weekend around there!

I'm not so good on the east side of the beacons but I think its the B4560 off the heads of the valleys road that one of my mates raves about. Otherwise I'd say the A4069 north from Brynamman is a must and if you don't mind going a few hours further north its worth taking the A470 up to Rhyader then going across the legendry Elan valley road and Aberystwyth mountain road and coming back via the A44 to Llangurig and back down the A470. Make sure you do it early mind otherwise it'll be difficult to have fun on the main A roads. But trust me when their quiet they're actually quite good roads!

Sorry that first map I posted shows where you are staying and not where I meant. This one should be better showing the A4107 and the A4061.
