I would go for the X1 myself. Nice bit of kit and I have not heard of any problems with it so far. Although I am not a massive blackberry fan. There are a slew of new devices due out running Android over the next few weeks so you might wait for those but then, there is always something new just around the corner!
Check out the Nokia E71 as well which is a superb phone, smaller screen though.
Also the HTC touch Diamond Pro seems decent but on balance, I would be going for the Sony.

I spoke to my phoneshop dude earlier as I'm due an upgrade soon.
He recommended the Blackberry Bold - loads of features and dead easy to set up.
He said there's also a new Nokia coming out - 59 something? Which he said is worth looking at.
Apparently stay clear of the G1 as it's buggy and the batt lasts 15 mins when surfing the web!

Not had any problems with my X1. Touch screen interface is excellent using the stylus, okay using a finger. Easy to synchronize with outlook, easy to set up e-mail.
If the primary driver behind your choice is a business phone then the blackberry is for you, however if you want a good smartphone instead then the X1 is a good choice.
Can't understand why the gadget show people couldn't get on with the interface, perhaps they're just spackers?
Edited to add: If you do get one ensure you download Xperia tweak as this enables you to switch off sim contacts and various other things like the startup panel.

Cool. Thanks for the suggestions everyone, keep 'em coming.
I'm on Vodafone, so G1 and iPhone are off the cards...

Ring up new provider and give pac code.
How sweet is your "sweet deal"?
