Hi all,

Yesterday my 4.4 Auto X5 had a bit of a wobbly, but then cleared itself. Today it got a lot worse...

Basically, when cold and moving away, the ABS activated, and then the traction control and ABS lights came on, stayed on, and this would keep happening after ignition switch-off. I've given it a quick blast underneath (it does get used off-road slightly - field use) with a jet wash,a nd checked the connections - all seems OK.

Does anyone have any idea what it could be, before I hit a garage?

Cheers

ABS wheel sensor, mine made lots of horrible noises and lots of lights came on. I don't think the sensors are paticularly expensive, well I hope not as mine has done it again this week with the wife driving.

Hope it's not like the Range Rover. Had the ABS/Traction warning and it turned out to be the ECU. They also fitted a new sensor and the old one was a complete barsteward to remove. The sensor was £80 but with the labour to remove the old one plus the ECU we got a bill of £700+.....and that was from a trusted indy.

God only knows what a stealer would have charged!!!

Jaysus. It's now undrivable - the rear brakes just think that the car is sliding, and jam on as soon as you touch the brakes. Booked into Woods (Hook) as soon as I can actually get it there...

Have you tried driving with it off? I assume its called DSC on the X5 aswell, just like my E46, hold it down for 3 or more seconds to completly turn it off, a yellow brake warning light should come up with the traction control light to indicate all systems are turned off, but obviously it still wont de-activate ABS for obvious reasons.

It turned out to be the speed sensor on the rear nearside. Woods of Hook sorted it all out for a good price (including diagnosis) - there we go!
