I can get stupidly angry at the most insignificant thing and be relatively calm when things go really wrong. Must be one of many character flaws.

I think the idea of having therapy for it would probably make me angry.

I used to manage a bloke like that - he was a diamond, but had a really "mental" side.

We both went on an anger management course (he was managing his anger and so was I, if you get my drift).

It concentrated on identifying the triggers and then developing some coping strategies.

As a one dayer it was well worth it.

Did it work? In his case, sadly not. He filled-in the CEO's wife at the Christmas party for "looking at his girlfriend funny", and got fired.

Try "Beyond Anger" by Thomas Harbin. Available from Amazon and the likes. A good start in understanding where your anger is coming from and gives a few simple excercises that can help.

If your anger is really that bad though get some Counselling asap. PM me if you like.

It's complex and will post more detail later *depending on piss takers*

But a simple case would be, a moron asking the same questions twice, people being too slow... the tt at the gym last night who tossed his dirty pants into my fresh gym kit... etc

Or on a bad day parnoid thoughts!

What's anger management got to do with your ability to counterstrike? Or did you not mean that?

Like any emotional problem, you need to address the underlying reason for your anger. Someone cutting you up on the motorway is not the underlying reason; that's just bringing up deep-rooted feelings of anger. As an example, when someone cuts me up on the motorway, I generally chuckle at their incompetence. I might, if seriously perturbed, raise an eyebrow.

You could try something like tai chi or yoga as a means of making you calm down but it is like putting a plaster over a tumour.

But you didn't do anything? Or did you pin the guy up against the locker and threaten to kill him and his family?

My Brother in Law does this, I for the life of me cannot understand it, nearly every time I see him he has broken his hand or at least a couple of fingers from hitting the wall confused

yikes Thats not a trigger - thats an invite to go Ahab on him!

I found all my anger issues went away as soon as I started working for myself, but then again my boss was one of the most annoying tts you could care to spend time with, the coin jangelling, noisy eating, letcherous, pisshead shoot

.....and relax.

Sound's like you have the ability to think outside of yourself, then. Which is good; sometimes being able to adopt a 3rd person's viewpoint of your situation gives you a better perspective.

One step up from that is to think not only from a third person, but also to imagine what the situation will look like from a later point in time - i.e. "What will someone else (a reasonable person) think next week about how I am acting right now?".

When your blood is boiling it takes a bit of mental bandwidth allocation skill to achieve this, but its what you need to do.

IMHO.

Good luck - you are half way to fixing the problem now that you have admitted it exists.

It's all down to control issues, I reckon. Most people's anger is down to not being in control. Apply this to situations you've encountered in the past and if it fits then you can do something about it.
