"Magnificent 7" Race series

The Classic Sports Car Club (CSCC) is to introduce a series of 30 minute qualifying and 40 minute pitstop races for one or two drivers and one or two cars based on the Lotus Seven concept(Caterhams, Westfields, Locosts, LA Procomps etc, etc) in 2009.
There was an announcement about it in Autosport (11 Dec 08).
All cars that are based around the 7 concept will be eligible.

got to say this looks pretty good. normally i bemoan new championships as they reduce the numbers on existing grids and can affect championship organisers but there are more than enough 7-esque cars to go round!

t approach as it generally brings out a real clubbie atmosphere. class structure looks like it will be ideal as the 1.3/1.6 k series cars are broadly in line with the 1700 xflows, the 1.8k/zetec get their own class effectively and then the 2.0VX engined cars are also effectively on their own give or take the odd zetec/duratec... should be good fun! i wonder how much old locosts are?, drop the 1300 and stick in something like a 2.0 zetec fresh from a mondeo scrapper (on the basis that its cheap, reliable, 130 bhp)?!??!

The regs quoted in the link above are IT (plus mandatory MSA safety regs, obviously). Nothing complicated, nothing trick, nothing hidden, nothing more to come. If you have something that looks a bit like a "7" come along and race with the CSCC.Andy_D said:

I think you know the answer to that....Why not contact the club and see if they will let it run as a guest in the "Future Classics" series. There is normally a 1990 cut off date for Future Classics but they may make certain exceptions.
Having spoken to Hugo at length about the ability of a 7 to go 40 mins at race pace w/o refueliing, there is the obvious ooption of fitting a larger tank (which for most people in a 7 is a) difficiult and b) expensive). The other option is to share a race between 2 drivers in 2 cars. This effectively halves the costs, whilst maintaining an interesting 'team' based race.
As such I'd be eager to pair up with any drivers who have a limited tank range. (I'm not sure who won't for a 40 min race?) I can BTG the Ring in about 7'50" if that's any help!?

A Caterham Academy car will run all morning at a Bedford trackday, driven properly and without refuelling.

OK. Perhaps. I need to do an OPL trackday till I splutter and see how long I've driven for. I can't tend to do more than 4 laps at the ring back to back w/o a refuel. I have an ATL bag tank fitted to my car btw, which is a direct replacement for the caterham tank. I've got circa 240hp, so may drain it quicker than an academy car! Does that help?
'standard' Caterham SuperGrad/Academy (1600 Rover K series) will run for an hour (plus)... have managed a team of 7's in the Birkett for the last 3years running 5 cars/drivers over 6hrs (so an hour & 12mins

I think a standard issue tank is 33litres, so it may give a guide to smaller & larger tanks?

Is this confirmed or just a rumour?The car we shall be using uses around 15+ litres in a 20 min race, so i suppose 30 will do but its close.
Thats using the same car ofcourse, as already pointed out two cars wouldn't have any dramas

An R400 will just manage 40 minutes on a standard (32l) bag tank. Add in the mandatory stop and it'll be no problem. The standard ali tank is slightly larger at 36l, but is more prone to surge at low levels.
Noted. I remember in my r400 especially at croft/ tower we had surge problems with around 5l left, no swirl pot fitted thoughi think this fuel issue is brilliant, suddenly its like f1 used to be in the turbo days when people wound the boost up but then had to throttle back later on in hte race to conserve fuel. the sight of 30 caterfields blatting round for 35 minutes then have to do two laps on an economy run would be priceless....
