I have the BL-M775 brake levers on my bike. They're working fine however I need to adjust them so the brakes bite a little bit further away from the handlebars.

The trouble is I cannot figure out how to do it. Instructions are here:

http://techdocs.shimano.com/media/techdocs/content...

...but I cannot see the little wheel that it says to move in the above document.

This is a pic of the lever:

Can anyone help?

Unscrewing the barrel adjuster where the cable outer meets the lever will move the bite point of the lever out from the bars.

According to those instructions, it's the silver screw just above the Shimano logo in your pic.

It says to loosen the screw to increase free stroke, so if the screw is currently fully in you're not going to be able to take any more slack out of the system.

It's a hydraulic brake rather than a cable one.

Ah, my mistake. I'm not up on these new fangled things wink

In that case and from what you said above, I'd start again with the silver screw unscrewed to about halfway before setting up the rest of the system.

Hmm, I'd read it to understand that the screw just releases whatever mechanism is used to adjust the lever - but if the screw does the adjusting, that makes sense. I'll give it a try and report back.

It's not worded too clearly I'll grant.

If they'd left it at:
Shimano said:
When the free stroke adjustment screw is loosened, the free stroke of the brake lever will increase
it would have been clear.

However, adding:
Shimano said:
, so that you can adjust it to the desired setting.
just muddies the waters. There's a lot to be said for "less is more" in technical writing.
