I'm not asking as "Outraged of Tonbridge Wells" as it's hardly worth getting worked up about even if it does seem wrong, however does anyone know why there is a propensity in TV advertising whenever any couple is involved, for the blokes role to more often than not be the clumsy buffoon or simian simpleton who's only role is to provide the laughter at his plight or stupidity?

There don't seem to be too many adverts that quite so blatantly feature women solely for the laughs/amusement, unless you count bloating and Tena Lady adverts but I guess that's not deliberate.

I'm probably not doing a great job of explaining, but it's becoming more prevalent and I'm actually curious what is behind it - not working in the advertising industry, is it, for example, feminist female dominated, or are there a bunch of blokes coming up with these adverts who are very shrewd and understand their demographic etc.

I would imagine it's because women are more reactive to TV advertising than men.

It's simple really.

Women are more likely to do the shopping and thus choose the brands.
