Evening gents.

A quick one. We recently started using a cleaning company to clean our house, nothing out of the ordinary, 2 hours a week. The wife has had to phone twice about the standard of cleaning and has canceled them today as yesterdays "clean" was a joke. So the bloke called round this evening and demanded 8 hours. I told him I was only going to pay 6 as yesterdays was just not on. He started to get aggressive and said he'll get his money through the debt collector.

Now, it's not a massive amount of money but for me it's the principle of it. What do I do? Send him a cheque for the 6 hours and wait till the debt collector arrives or pay nothing until the debtor collector arrives.

If the debtor collector does come or send a letter, how do I deal with that?

Thanks
Ciaran

I bet you won't hear from him again. He would have hoped you had caved in after the threat.

he'd have to go to court to get bailiffs involved surely, for what? £50? A lawyers letter alone will be £80!

I'd put a letter in to the cleaning company confirming the reasons for you not paying the outstanding.

Keep a copy and send their recorded delivery.

Should be the last you hear of it, but you can show it to adebt collector to dispute the amount they (would) claim you owed.

Should be no problem after that.

Make sure you get the keys to the house back pronto - you don't want the disgruntled boss helping himself to your stuff!

Contact them enclosing a cheque for the hours of service you were happy to pay for in "full and final settlement" of your account, together with an explanation detailing the reasons why you won't be paying for those that you weren't.
That, I am willing to wager, is the last you will hear from them.
If "the debt collector" contacts you in any way (which won't happen unless they're certifiable) tell him/her/them to fk off in no uncertain manner.

HTH, PM me if you get any further grief!

You don't need a solicitor.

They would make a claim through the small claims court (which would cost £30) then send the collectors in IF the debt is not settled.

But, you can dispute the claim.

It is an empty threat IMO.

Tell him to get stuffed. He can't send bailiffs without a court order, and that costs around £30 if I'm not mistaken and is only recoverable if he wins. He's not going to go to all that trouble and expense for the sake of two hours' wages...

Just remember that dealing with a baseball bat requires "phone box" techniques of engagement biglaugh
Don't worry fella, that knowledge won't be necessary!!

Then 'Stevie the shotgun' may be used to counter.

Then a letter entitled "Foxtrot Oscar" should suffice.

Empty threat, and no mistake.

There is always a chance they did.

Anyway, when we bought our house we swapped the locks around, so what was once the front door is now the inner back door, and one of the inner conservatory doors is now the front door, so only if they had a set of full house keys (8 keys) would the old tenant be able to get in.

biggrin

Hope they don't read PH. scratchchin
