Hotels & Food in York

Looking for some Hotel recommendations for a nice hotel for me & 'missus (Anniversary) in York Town Centre plus some restaurant ideas specifically Chinese, Thai, Indian or Mexican. Probably getting the train up there.

its pretty good for the price - we got three nights for the price of two B&B.

Rooms and setting is nice - and if you were driving it has free off road parking which is a nice perk in York.

We were looking at that hotel last night on live maps - looked pretty good. I assume the building work is done now:

I went to uni in York; there's a good mexican near the city walls called Fiesta Mehicana, for more upmarket european food you could try Melton's or their bistro 'Meltons Too'. The Blue Bicycle is worth a look too, with good fish. Never found a good Chinese or Indian restaurant though.

Not sure on city centre hotels, but my wife used to work at The Black Bull on the Hull road which is just a run of the mill M&B pub, but is the cheapest in York and about a £4 taxi ride to the centre if you don't fancy the walk.

I wasn't impressed with Fiesta mexicana or whatever its called.

Saffron on micklegate is probably the best indian restaurant - especially the starters.

Hotels in NY are the same as anywhere else, the better (and more central) it is the more it costs. Last time I was there I got a reasonable deal at Hotel 41 (off Times Square). Cheaper than a lot in the area as it has limited facilities and the area is noisy from 4AM . It is worth spending the money and being central as everything mid town was in walking distance, especially useful as the traffic there is nightmare even in a cab. Got to see all the sights and got the subway to go down town. It was also handy for work but that was a secondary issue .
