I need a tripod for general use,not one of the mini ones but a full size job. Fair bit of weight with my 450D + flash + grip and extra battery. I read reviews on the Manfrotto785B but at full stretch its meant to be a bit wobbly,any ideas?

Might be a bit heavy, but I love my Manfrotto 058B - extends very tall but super stableta Ed
+ 1 for Manfrotto.
I've been using them for about 25 years, A1 kit and a very wide choice to suit all budgets & cameras.
Have a look at;

But best to go into a good camera shop and try a few out for yourself before you buy.

I have a Manfrotto 190 XPROB with a Manfrotto 484 RC2 head, although looking on their site, the latter seems to have been replaced.
I also have a D450. I didn't like the feel of the battery pack, so flogged it on Ebay, but as I recall, it didn't add too much weight? The above combination has been rock solid with the body, a 70-300mm zoom and 1.4x teleconvertor. I've not really come across any reason to use both my external flash and my tripod together (what are you planning to use that combo for?), but again, I don't think this would prove in any way a problem.
The tripod itself was roughly £100 from memory, and is a joy to use. Quick to extend and contract, and the centre post can be pivoted, meaning you can have it coming out horizontally away from the legs, or flip it upside down for ground level shots. I would highly recommend it.
