Broken Washer/dryer

Only 18 months old. programme control board has blown. Replacement board is worth more than I value the machine at, £200. I only paid £267 for it in a shop sale. The call out bloke said that he gets more calls about indesit machines than any other make and 9 times out of 10 its the PCB.
So dug into the savings and got a nice shiny new LG washer dryer. £499
Seriously though, are things only made to last just over the manufacturers guarantee? What happened to making quality products?

Alfa that's fine if it doesn't take you a decade to pay it off,
If the OP had spent £949 on a Miele 18 months ago, it would still be working and still be under a 5 year guarantee. He's already spent £766 on stuff that has, and will, break....
My Miele washing machine and tumble dryer, combined, cost me more than the car I was running when I bought them!
Couldn't these guys help? I've found them to be extremely useful at finding unusual parts at very compettive prices:

What a geek I am.

Miele are definately very good, its why they can afford to offer 5 and 10 year warranties (its their promotion, not the shops).
Its too late for the OP now, but theres plenty of places that do reconditioned/repaired/used circuit boards for w/m's, got ours for £80 when brand new it was a similar price to that which you were quoted.

Obviously the reliability/performance of your washing machine [whatever said item is/does??? will check with Missus Storma in the morning, if I make it home...] is more important than your car!PH - Washing Machines Matter!
The domestic appliances are still here, long after the car was sold....
I enjoy shopping for cheap cars, I hate shopping for domestic appliances - so buy the best I can afford meaning it's a once a decade experience.
I spent every day of my life for 20+years repairing firstly domestic kitchen and laundry equipment then commercial, I was workshop manager of one of the largest domestic appliance repair companies in london, The only pcb's that i found faulty were subject to water ingression, PCB's don't fail.
Engineers who are too lazy/stupid to fault find always blame the PCB, its a good get out clause and a very poor excuse especially with boiler engineers

You bought cheap tat. And have done again.
Miele.
Costs more to buy, but lasts at least a decade.
WashingMachineRepairMan once told me they're all as good/bad as each other...Miele.

What exactly fails on the PCB ?
Could be failure of individual components and repair chap does not goto that level of detail (or knowledge in most cases) or due to the high level of vibration seen in a washing machine the tracks on the PCB could simply crack and become open circuit. They are in a pretty harsh environment yet designed for tiny cost, not an ideal pairing!Well the LG that we now have has been working non-stop all night. we have a 3 month old baby but it seems to be me that has run out of clothes to wear, probably because i live in about two pairs of jeans.
Anyway, the guy that we got ours from has given us 2years full guarantee and 5 years parts guarantee. the motor has 10 years on it from LG.
So, lesson learned. Buy cheap, buy twice.
