Following an interesting family meal discussion over Christmas about what would happen to the UK if our fuel / food supply started to dry up and how quickly anarchy would arise we came to some interesting conclusions.

1. We have about 3 weeks worth of food stored (for 6) because has been predicting a civil war for years

2. We would eat the big dog unless she proved to be good at catching rabbits or other food. But my sisters don't approve and they say they could tell the difference between rabbit and boarder collie casserole.

3. My dad plans to protect the house with a catapult, apparently its silent and deadly and not as messy as machetes and shotguns. I voted for lots of traps and big holes with spikes in.

4. We would eat the small dog (Jack Russell) quicker than the big dog unless she could fit down rabbit holes

5. We would sedate and drug my youngest sister (17) because we all agreed she would be a liability in keeping a low profile.

6. My Dad and i agreed that if the house was insecure we would be happy to live in the woods in a tent to survive, all the woman didnt agree.

7. I thought asylum seeker stew would be delicious

8. Its much easier to survive in smaller groups where you can stay undetected by scavengers

9. Raiding peoples lofts for sleeping bags, tents etc rather than risk going into town for supplies

So, Pistonhead people, what plans have you made or how would you survive in a starving Briton for say a few months?

Bear in mind what happened to supermarkets the last time there was a believed hyped up fuel shortage and that was only a few days.

Probably because there would be a very weak excuse why the dog wasnt present.

What like Kate Moss you mean? I expect I'd manage - might get a little droopy though.

Do a search for "Tobacco tin" from about 2 years ago.

Then your survival worries will be no more.

Hmm, good question:

1. Re-watch and take notes from all Ray Mears DVD's.

2. Get the hell out of the city. Reckon a bothy somewhere in the north of Scotland would be good.

3. Siphon as much fuel as possible from any cars in the street.

4. Rob a shop that sells air pistols\rifles\bow and arrow. Use for hunting.

5. As above but with fishing gear.

6. Steal a Defender.

I was then coming on here to post that

Not too sure how a credit card a mobile phone and a pizza menu would get you through in times of anarchy though?

yes Canvas is much stronger than walls!

This (thread) is a joke, right?

If it isn't, then, no we don't have that much; maybe a weeks worth of food. But I live in London and, if the shops run dry, it'll be carnage within a week and there is nowhere to hide. It'll be cannibalism and drinking your own urine by Saturday.

biglaugh

I did end up with useful stuff in the tin. I ignored the credit cards suggestions, much to my relief.

Not a joke, It was a semi serious discussion. Aprart from the cannibleisum bits.

oh, and we meant a very well camoflaged tent. If people are searchign for food, they would try to break into houses, they cant search what they cant find.

My main points for survival

  • Buy lots of ammo for the shotguns (and make sure they work)
  • Steal the old mans Range Rover, weld steel plates over it A-Team style and head for Scottish Highlands, fighting off bad guys (you lot) on the way
  • Live off the land i've acquired from shooting farmer McGiles

Haha, all of a sudden I feel slightly more sane as my housemate and I came up with quite detailed plans for several different apocalyptic scenarios! nerd

To be honest, most of them place obtaining weaponry (not neccessarily firearms though they're preferable) as one of the tasks high up the priority list. From there you can pretty much get what you need. Bunch of unarmed looters vs 2 looters with minimis - minimis win.

We'd be relocating to the nearby ex FAA airfield too, as it would give us a convenient runway when we got our hands on a plane, there's 2 coastguard helicopters based there, and it provides plenty of space and workshop facilities both for storage of supplies, and also for accommodation for other survivors who we feel would be beneficial to us (organised people for instance, IE Police and Army - Doctors would be useful, Pilots, Mechanics definately, Firefighters, Coastguard for SAR if one of our aircraft went down. All that kind of thing.)

Obviously it goes without saying that all PHers will be welcome at our post apocalyptic haven - just bring a print out of this thread and get your ass to here - http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&a... - you want the broom way entrance, the others will be mined whistle

It would have to be a fat Briton, or there wouldn't be enough room inside. But you stipulate that he must be starving?

I'm confused.
