Hello all. First time on the Jap chat forum.

I'm after a little advice. I've recently been looking for a track day toy and may soon have the chance to buy a Gen 5 Celica. It's a non turbo version but i'm not sure if it's a 1.8 or 2 litre version. Are the non turbo versions any good as track toys?? I'm not looking for lightning performance but something that handles well and is relatively reliable (i know things wear faster with track use). I've been told by a work colleague who used to own a 2L model that they handle brilliantly but are woefully under powered for a 2L engined car. Is this true??

I'm just after comments really as i know very little of this model of celica (only experience of Celica driving is of a Gen 6 GT i had as a loan car last summer and it was incredible - possibly the best handling car i've ever driven) but especially if anyone has tracked one.

I ran a ST182 (2 litre gen 5) for a couple of years, and while fun I wouldn't say it handled brilliantly or would make a particularly good track toy.

Engine is pretty good. Brakes won't be up to it. Stock suspension is far too soggy and the helm is not the most responsive.

All fixable with cash, but dare I say a MX5 would be pots and pots more fun...
