Sub 30yo Modified Insurance- Help!
Discussion
I'm rather hoping I haven't made a serious error...
I've bought a Griff with a number of significant mods (5.3 etc.) with the assumption that aged 27 I was rather past the uninsurable bracket.
I'm supposed to picking the car up this weekend and I have just found out that because I am sub 30 I cannot get insurance with Hagerty, and Adrian Flux quoted me £5600
I couldn't get hold of Mannings today and am going to try Competition Car Insurance as well but I am suddenly very jittery
I do have three points (who hasn't) and I had a minor bump at a junction a couple of years back (thought the person in front of me had gone and tapped the back of them)
Whilst I got my Chim at 24 I have no "no claims" on it due to the last insurance I had on it (with Hagerty) being a classic policy
Please tell me that there is someone out there who can help!

Matt-man, there seems to have been a recent change with hagerty, others have said they have stopped quoting for 'new' under 30s but those with existing policies are OK.
They quoted me a 2-3 months ago to add my 20 year old (very, very reasonable) but I'm unsure if that was before the change or not.

Hagerty do seem to change tune rather often... When I bought my Chim at 21, they first offered me a great quote, then said they couldn't honor it and as they had changed underwriters when I rang up to accept the offer, claiming that they no longer insured under 25s. I then rang them again the next year just to see if they had changed and they were great and did insure me... I guess you have to get them on the right day!
I would suggest the following.
Go to a comparison site like confused or gocompare to get some ball park estimates.
Then call a broker like A-plan (and others) and tell them the best quote from the comparison site.
The good thing with a broker is they can take account of previous ownership/driving experience (i.e. in the Chim) which web-sites where you only have the box to tick can't.
Is the Griff your only car and will you use it for commuting as this always bangs the cost up. If you can avoid commuting use all the better.
As has been said before on here, if you buy a second car (cheap and small) to use as a daily runner you may be able to save enough on the Griff insurance to actually pay for and run it. (They also come in useful for trips to the tip and B&Q !!)

All sound advice- sadly confused.com came up with zero firms willing to quote (modified TVR is really a bit specialised).Go to a comparison site like confused or gocompare to get some ball park estimates.

This is very much a second car (no commuting)it is more the risk profile being outside that normally accepted by mainstream insurers.
Thank you everyone for the suggestions- I have a busy lunch ahead of me on the phone me thinks...
Both A-Plan and Direct line insured my cerb for under £700. A-Plan ended up better with the two car policy and thats who I was with for the last two years I owned the car.
Good luck! I know just how much of a pain it can be! I was 26 when I bought the Cerb and had to do a lot of phoning back and forth to get my qoutes down.

Is that even with the Nitrous kit? I was trying to get some quotes for putting a nitrous setup up on my 4.2 and was much higher than that, didn't even want cover for using it on the road, just really so they were preadvised I had fitted a nitrous system and they could have a claims inspector having a coronary when he spotted the plumbing. Thank you for all your help guys.
I must have caught Hagerty on one of their good days as they offered a rate of £382 (having previously heard that under 30s were taboo this was a surprise)
In the end went for Mannings as whilst their £500 quote was higher the excess was lower (£500 versus £100) and the quote included trackdays.
Picking the buggy up on Sat....
Overall?
