Quick legal surname question following marriage
Discussion
We're getting married shortly and rather than take my surname my other half is going to double barrel hers-mine with me keeping mine as is.
Does anyone know if this can be done on the day just via the marriage cert/register? We've asked the registrars but they are a little vague on this subject.
Some people have said that this type of name change can only be done by deed-poll instead - again does anyone know if this is true?
Thanks in advance

Lots of useful info there - although I admit it's not something I like - always seems a touch pretentious somehow. I just kept my own maiden name as I preferred it but don't mind if people assume I have taken my OH's name and address me as such.

Yeah! Thanks for your informative reply! tClearly up her own arse! or an only child with issues- been there. lol!
t!!The reason we are thinking of this is my current name - Tony Brown, hers Beverley Temple.
Beverley Brown just doesn't sound right. Tony Temple sounds like a gay magician!
Beverley temple-Brown sounds better to us plus she'd ideally like to keep her family name (especially as it relates to her business).

I am pretty sure the deed poll suggestion is correct.
I think the usual married name can be changed by informing people (or not if you wish to keep your maiden name) and also including a certificate of marriage with some things like passports, most other things don't care and you just have to tell them of a change but if it's different to the name of your new husband you have to use deed poll....

If she's in business everyone will understand she's got married, why would she change the business name?
sorry bud, no offence but - grow a pair.

they know what they want to do and are not asking for your ill informed advice regarding what name they have.
