Removing Credit car d from xbox live account...
Discussion
My credit card company changed over to using Master Card this year and my card number changed accordingly. My Xbox live subscription was up for renewal on 02/01/09 and I got a couple of emails saying my payment couldn't be processed (as the old Visa details were on there). When I went onto my Xbox to put in my new details, my account was still active and it said I'd been a member from 01/09 and my renewal was 01/10 (I've been a memeber of Xbox Live for about 4 years now, so don't know why it says 01/08), I don't want anything for free, but at the same time don't want to pay twice by adding another credit card, will it get to the point where I turn on my Xbox and it says something like "You cannot connect to Xbox Live games until you renew your Gold Subscription"? Don't really want to lose my Gamertag!

If you leave your account with an invalid credit card, a point in the not too distant future your account will be cancelled and your gamertag lost. This is non-reversible.What is likely to have happened is the crappy renewals system has instigated a renewal (which changed the setting in your accounts page) but the payment system failed, so you are now in breach of the terms and conditions. You need to call them to sort it out.
Be careful though, they will probably try to charge you £40 to bring your account up to date, which you would think would give you another 12 months gold service from the date your renewal was up. It won't do this, it will bring you up to date to the current day! They will then ask you to pay another £40 for 12 months service starting today, so be very clear what you are paying for.
ok then, to clarify ive been through this twice with good ol' MS
so heres a break down.
!, to remove a card you must contact xbox via phone, and ask for it to be removed.
2, when you have no card and your xbl (xbox live) dubscription runs out you will be reverted to silver membership.
3, IF your card details change and you add a new card it WILL NOT!!!! be the new default card, the old details will be, this means that if your XBL is to be renewed it will charge your old card and fail, after a little while your account will be suspended.
4, to reslove point three simply phone xbox cust serv and explain the old card is no longer default card and need to be cancelled, no money will have been taken from your account when they tried charging the old card. they will ask you to say which card you would like to pay for xbl with and will also charge any back payemnts (items that couldnt be charged to original card) to your new one.
5, if you have no card attatched to the account but have previously paid with Direct Debit they WILL NOT try and charge your card as they will no longer have the details, this means you will not have an unpaid subscription against your account and instead of being blocked it will be reverted to XLB silver membership, you must then use XBL renewal codes purchased from Gamestation/Game/etc etc. once a code is used it will default to codes and everytime your subcription ends you will be reverted to silver untill a new voucher is pruchased and redeemed.
If you wish to know any more, ask me, ive had alot of shit from xbox so i know how they work now.

How about just removing the auto-renew option - that's what I did and about a month afterwards it reverted to a silver account.
Once you went to silver did it still have your old card details fixed in the account or could you renew with a different card?Yeah I know silver is free. I'm asking because I want to transfer my live account to a new credit card. What I meant was - If I let my account go to silver, then back to gold after a month like you said, would MS have kept my card details from the previous gold membership, or would I be able to register the new card to pay for the new gold account, and keep my gamertag?

If I'm reading this right, you've got one credit card that's due to expire and an XBOX Live Gold subscription that is about to expire/auto-renew too?All you've got to do is remove the auto-renew, and then when you get your new credit card number and want to go back to Gold, you simply enter your new details when it asks for payment details.
You keep the same gamertag - just when you go to pay you change the credit card details.
dont count on it, i asked them to remove the card that had expired and transfer all billing over to the new card i had added, they said they would, when i next went online my account was frozen, i asked them about it, and they said it hadnt been paid for, so i said how i'd tranfered payments from old card to new and deleted new card, but they had deleted new card and left old card, and due to the way their systems work. they couldnt re instate the new card and it can never be used with xbl again!!!!
fooking retards
fooking retards
I added my new card and removed my old card by going to 'Change Payment Options' and setting the new one as the defualt, the old one was then gone and my Live subscription was set to be charged to the new one... Please Microsoft, don't bugger this up and make me lose my temper with some poor sod in a call centre!
