Man loses £130,000 in online scam

A 32-year-old man has lost more than £130,000 in an internet scam involving Nigerian fraudsters.

Surprised there is anyone stupid enough to fall for this anymore. My mother is in her 60's and wouldn't fall for it

Don't confuse age with intelligence - plenty of older peeps who are a damn site smarter than younger people I know.

These scams always revolve around greed - people think they can get rich by doing practically nothing and so they'll ignore their common sense and run with it. Somebody at my last job was almost got by one of these, fortunately it was flagged up on the mail server and I set them straight that it was a well known scam.

A friend of mine has a good point re cases like this. He says, he understands that a fool and his money can be easily parted, but what puzzles him is how did the fool get the money in the first place?

There was a program on the TV last night which was about these pawnbrokers like Cash Convertors and there was a bloke on it who was £150K in debt and only £80K of that was mortgage. He used to get stuff from catalogues on credit and pawn it for the cash...

See people like this all the time, with lottery scratch cards, and by slot machines in pubs.

Put in a pound, loose it, put in some more, loose that. And they keep doing it, even when there's no chance or recouping their losses!

Buy a scratch card, lose money, buy more, win £5, buy 5 more scratch cards, loose on all, but some more...
