Hello all,
Just had a pretty weird debt collection letter out of the blue from a 3g account I had 6 years ago that I had cancelled before even using it. Never heard anything since and I cant even remember why I cancelled it (I think the phones didnt work or something and couldnt be bothered)
Anyway, naturally I called them and told them to insert things into themselves- but the woman claimed that my non-payment of this phantom debt would be recorded as a credit default with the credit agencies.
Anyone know the following:
1)Although I remember I had a completely valid reason to cancel my contract- buggered if I can remember what it was 6 years later-can they chase me after all this time?
2)Can it really affect my credit rating? ie a)a disputed debt and b)one that is 6 years old?

Cheers

Will be interesting to see views on this as I have a second debt collection agancy chasing me for £41 that Sky say I owe them from nearly 3 years ago.

Fortunately I have copies of the recorded delivery letters that I sent to sky which they have never bothered replying to so I will tell this agency the same as the last agency, that I am still waiting for Sky to reply.

The last agency just returned the debt to Sky.

Must be costing someone a lot more than £41 to keep chasing this. And I hope it's Sky, the w@nkers!!! biggrin

6 years is Statute Barred non? Tell them to jog on.

Might be a mistake debt that someone bought for 1p among a whole list of debts that have been written off, to try and earn some cash from people that have no idea how it works.

I wouldnt worry too much. If it could affect your credit, it would have done for the last 6 years, it cant now, unless the law has change and statute is longer now, but even so, I'd give them a polite phone call detailing how they should foxtrot oscar.

I think six years is the limit for claiming a debt so maybe they're just doing some "housekeeping".
Theck the exact dates and if over six years the tell them to stick it.
