Horror Films

On the look out for a really good horror film or two to get for the weekend.

I like really disturbing horror - the more real life it is the better.

I like the Scream films - but they are not IMHO true horror just good thrillers/with twists.

Saw 1 & 2 (not seen any others yet) - love them very amusing

Hostel - 1st 40mins I thought I had hired a blue movie and then the odd deprived action at the end it seemed like 2 different films enjoyed it but watch it once only.

Haloween 1. Classic love it - watched it when I was in Primary school.... sh&t me up properly & even today the B&W version on a dark windy night with all the lights off does the same.

Leatherface - enjoyed this film very much & the remake is pretty good too.



so any views?/recommendations - "there will be blood" lol
Heard some great reviews about Eden lake - a British take on the US Funny Games of 1997.

If you'd consider computer game based ones "Silent Hill" is quality. It's not a gore or shock horror one though. It's meant to be more eerie than anything else like "Jacob's Ladder" and "The Shining" was. My favourite one for a long time.

For more graphic violance you've obviously got the "Saw" films and "Hostel". I personally liked "The Grudge" and "The Ring" (Original and new one) as well but they're designed to be more frightening than gruesome.

You've obviously got things like "Hellraiser" and the "Phantasm" films which are classics as long as you don't mind a good laugh at the ridiculous "special effects". In the same era "Friday the 13th" /"Halloween" are always good, if a little repetative, but I'd avoid any "Nightmare on Elmstreet" as they're utter ste from every perspective IMO.

Gotta add in my nominations for the Japanese Ring / Grudge / Premonition films. Ideally the originals rather than the Hollywood remakes.

I am guessing you have already seen the likes of Last House on the Left, Wrong Turn, Wolf Creek, I Spit on Your Grave etc.

Have been told The Strangers is quite good.

WolfCreek is very very good - but one you can only ever watch once doing it twice and its lost its shine. Loved it 1st time round 2nd & 3rd Meh.

Would people say Se7en is a horror? - Amazing film 3 world class actors & Kevin outshining the other 2 with his performance.

(Probably the most versatile actor around)

Absolute sh*te that film. Loved the trailers, couldnt wait to watch it, but turned out to be so so disappointing.

I do have The Mist to watch though, looks promising.

[The Dirty Bubble]

28 Days Later is great, the sequel 28 Weeks Later is not quite as good but is nastier.

The Host is a Korean monster movie with real substance; it’s also very funny in places.

Take a look at some of George A Romeo’s stuff, Day of the Dead and Land of the Dead are both good.

Agreed. I also believe when they ran the alternative (filmed) ending past Stephen King, he wished he had come up with that ending for the original story.
