What was the term used before Information Technology?

Big debate in the office about this. Before IT became the universal term to describe computers, systems, databases etc. what was used?

No one in the office can remember so anyone out there who remembers the likes of IBM, green screens, Wordstar, WordPerfect and Wang know what the term Information Technology took over?

People had specific skill sets. You would be a 'wang' engineer, or an IBM specialist etc.

In times of yore computers had vavles and IT meant investment trust.
Followed by noisey tapes then very large discs.
Public exposure came later with Sinclair, Commadore and info stuff like Ceefax and teletex.

Anyway who the feck decides on thse name changes? HR for example, the name makes me want to machine gun the department.
