W208 CLK stereo/Ipod question
Discussion
ive recently bought a 2001 CLK230K which has the standard Mercedes headunit in it, which preferably i would like to keep so i can still have the controls on the steering wheel, is there any way i can connect an I pod to it without that FM tuner thing as ive heard that they can not be great sound quality wise, or if i do have to put an aftermarket headunit in is there any way i can still get it to connect to the steering wheel controls and on board computer display?.
Unless your 230 came with COMAND it's unlikely to have that AUX socket. It's likely you have Audio 10 or Audio 30. The CANBUS adaptor for this is unfortunately not able to maintain steering wheel controls (I have an adaptor after I fitted a Becker Cascade to replace the factor unit which Becker also makes, actually!).
It does pick up speed pulse though.

There is a third party adaptor available which fits in the glovebox. It fools the headunit into thinking the iPod is a CD multi player and that playlists are CDs. I think it is made by a firm called "Gateway" and is not hugely expensive. If you have an Audio 30 headunit, it is probably much cheaper than changing the headunit, because that set up has a separate amp, unusually rated speakers and fibre optic connections, all of which would need to be changed.
You may also wish to have a look at the websites of Braybrooks and Comand.co.uk, both of which specialise in modifying the stock set up.

hi, thanks for the info, i have an Audio 10, i found out today that there is a lead that links an aftermarker heeadunit to the multi function controls so they still work as normal, so im guessing if i get a headunit with an ipod adaptor then it should all work ok?.You may also wish to have a look at the websites of Braybrooks and Comand.co.uk, both of which specialise in modifying the stock set up.
