Quick Advice - works Blackberry purchase

Hi Folks

We are being provided with Blackberry handsets as of next week and not having a clue about what are good and what are not, wanted some general advice. The only factor in my decision making process is that I want a device that I can reasonably type back replies to emails from clients.

Choices provided by our IT dept are:

8100
8310
8800
9000 Bold
9500 Storm
8900 Curve

Help?!

I have the bold and like it. Simple and with a large screen.

I think it will be the last blackberry device to feature physical keys. I am not too keen on touch screen email devices.

Anything with separate keys for letters on the keyboard, not multiple letters on the same key. I'd suggest either the bold or the curve.

To the comment above, the next blackberry with keys is apparently going to be called "Javelin"

Dont bother with the storm, its the most frustrating thing ever.

If I were you, I'd go for the Bold. One of the latest handsets, does everything you could want it to, decent keys and a good screen.

Bold is good. Conventional blackberry with a colour screen and qwerty keyboard. The storm is an Iphone competitor with touch screen.

We're now on our 3rd version of Blackberry and went for the Bold this time. Form and functionality has improved greatly. I find it very nice to use for both emails and web browsing. Screen clarity is excellent.

The ones with the double letters on each key are actually excellent. The predictive text and interface is the cleverst thing I have come across in a long time and saves a lot of time as it nearly always get what you intend to type right- its like Voodoo! mine is an 8220

I've got a curve it does exactly what it says on the tin in a clear and sensible way.

So long as you are only using it as e-mail when you travel, rather than a 100% phone, I'd go with a curve.

There are times, such as typing passwords, when it refuses to switch to non-predictive mode which can be very annoying for supporting them certainly.

On the other hand I tend to write a lot of stuff that uses names and terms not in the dictionary, and it is a right royal pita forcing it to spell the word I want every time.

Its looking favourite for the Bold at the moment!

Bold or Curve are the only choices I'd consider. Storm is awful.

Would suggest you get down a phone shop to try out each of those and then just go with what you like best as functionality is more or less the same.

I have a bold and it is definitely the best blackberry, however I use my iPhone now instead.

I've got the storm and although I was a tad unsure about it at first I reckon it's pretty good, just takes some playing with/getting used to.

hi I would reccomend the Bold i have the storm but i just dont feel it should have been released yet there are too many niggly bugs in it which really frustrate especially trying to play brickbreaker, im looking at swapping it for the bold

I've got the 8310 (just checked) and it does what it says on the tin, pretty easy to type replies and is easy to use in general for internet / phone calls.

hey hey, after deabating endlessly with my manager about this (I work in the mobile phone industry) I would go for the 8900 over the bold, even though I like the bold. The 8900 is smaller, similar large screen, better camera (3.2 as apposed to the 2.0 the bold has) the only thing it has not got if I recall is 3g. not that important to most people...
