Advice with insurance claim please
Discussion
Just want to get peoples advice on this. Was burgled on Sunday night while I was in bed. They took the TV and my car. I'd forgotten to lock the back door. They'd jumped over neighbour's wall (tried his door) and my fence - garden has no rear access.
House insurance won't pay for the tv as I didn't lock the door - I've checked the policy and it does state that it should be locked and the key removed at night. Fair enough.
I have a half-hour phone interview on Tuesday with the loss adjuster for Direct line with regard to the car claim. A little concerned that it could go the same way.
Friends have said that I should have put the window through etc, but the fact that I'm proud to be an honest bloke makes me think otherwise (and I didn't think about it at the time!) That aside, £15k is a lot to lose.
Police report states that criminals entered via an insecure rear door.
Should I just hold my hands up and let them do their worst?

Sorry to hear about your situation and I am sorry for all the comments you will get from others saying how silly you was etc etc... I am sure thats the last thing you will want to hear.
Police report pretty much puts you in position where all you can do is be very honest, hope that it pays off. Might be an idea to insist the car key however was not in plain sight and indeed was hidden away. Might go in your favour
Best of luck.

This isn't helpful to you (any you have my deepest sympathies) but ffs! why on earth did you tell *anyone* (even the wife) that the door was unlocked?
If you hadn't then nobody at all would ever be any the wiser (including anyone on here).
A mate of mine had his BMW840 nicked cos he left the keys on his desk in his dealership. And told that to the coppers/insurance! (Believe it or not they actually paid out)
