Hi all!

First time going to Le Mans this year, so would like some advice on how is the best way.

I so far checked the lemansrace.com and seen ferry, race tickets and camping for around £225 (using the tunnel) this is per person.

Having never been, is this the sort of normal, or is there anyother sites people can recommend or just some tips on how I should do it.

Also, planning on leaving on the Thursday returning Sunday/Monday - again is this the best time frame!

Try speedchills for an all in one package and secure camping great hospitality/Food/race coverage and clean toilet blocks!

A little more expensive than your quote but those that have used like myself swear by them, going with them again in '09 and cant wait!!.

But I've booked Sea France it is the cheapest way across the water.

Sunday is a bit manic to get out, unless you leave before the race finishes!
Some do!
But you'll miss the track invasion, Sunday night bonfires and fireworks!

DON'T FORGET THE POLICE ENFORCE THE SPEED LIMITS!!!!

Club Arnage is indeed a fantastic source of information.
A few weeks before the race, they will publish a guide. You can download this and use it to fine tune your visit; it's invaluble. Just don't forget to contribute some cash to the cost of producing it.

Make sure you know what the radar sign looks like.

Keep 750 euro's handy in case you get stopped.

Make sure your copilot is insured

DO NOT have a radar detector in your car.


We booked through team Langoustine last year, with ACO membership and seats. You get nice hot showers and clean loo's within the main stand. Worth the money in itself. didnt stay within their camp but wish we had. Superb facilities and general bonhomie.

Whatever you do, make sure you are there in time to enjoy Mad Friday to the full. Don't go out in a convertible on Mad Friday unless you want to get soaked. Do remember your Le Mans Survival Kit, essential items to include: BOG ROLLS, bottle opener, corkscrew, wet wipes, hangover remedies. Don't expect to sleep without the aid of copious amounts of alcohol. Do have a shower first-thing on Sunday morning - they're locked up very early on Sunday. Don't take your car out of the campsite on Sunday - you will NOT get back in for hours. Also keep close to base on Sunday night as security clear off shortly after the race finishes and swarms of pikeys decend like locusts on the campsites. Quite funny as long as it's not your stuff they're after. Check out:

Bog roll - agree
Bottle opener - or just buy bottle with twist-off caps
Corkscrew - why, wine bottles just mess up your beer mountain!
Wet wipes - why?!? I've managed 7 years without a single wet wipe.
hangover remedies - if you've got a hangover it's natures sign that you've been too long between beers (easily remedied with another beer).

Depends on camp site - some are open till late Sunday night in Houx for example.

I wouldn't advise taking the car out Saturday morning either - know someone that popped out for fresh pastries at 8AM and only just made it back in time for the start of the race.

I'd also advise against leaving the campsites Sunday afternoon (post-race) - you have lots of cars and the French concept of traffic control. In '07 it took ~2hrs for the people camped next to us to move 100yds!

Come 4PM (or 3PM or 5PM or whatever random start/finnish time the ACO pick) EVERYTHING stops. The race stops, the village closes, the security start to get itchy feet, the pikies start lining up, etc. At least it means there isn't any reason not to return to your camp site and drink up the remaining beer/burn anything flamable/puncture anything inflaitable/etc.
