I've put a rebuilt cross flow engine in a Locost I've just built, and kept the gear box as was, all OK but but the gear stick is slopy in neutral, last time I had a Ford 4 Speed was in my Elan Sprint, what do I need to change to get a nice crisp precise gear change on a 4 speed, and are parts available?
Thanks

Fat Richie

That's an outrageous price, a genuine Quaife gear lever is less than half that.

OK not what I want, The gear box I have does not have a spherical connection from the stick to the box , the gear stick has a two pronged fork on it.

The fork part of the gearstick slots over the linkage in the gearbox housing there should be a white nylon sleeve(bearing)that insulates the fork from this rod(single rail)which can break up or fall off this is probably why you have slop,i love these single rail gearboxes with gearchanges like a hot knife thru butter and very well made strong units,if you can get a original Cortina MK2 1600E or Capri MK1 1600GT box with the tall 1st gear your tuned X flow will be much less prone to tractin problems on take off with hardly any rpm drop in the lower 2 gear changes hehe on my X flow many moons ago 1st was good for over 40mph at nearly 8k with this box wink very rare then and probably rarer now.

No thats the gearstick collar(yes there crap)i had the quickshifter kit on mine 50% less travel and the collar was metal(pukka)the bush i am talking about sits on the single rail where the gearstick forked end pivots on(its a glorified bearing/insulator) thumbup
