If the coolant level it doesn't shift (and from what you say it may not) then the mayo isn't coolant water. A cylinder pressure check would confirm one way or another.
Excessive steaming from the exhaust when the engine is warm is another sign.
Maybe the g/f's 10 miles each way doesn't really get it hot enough to boil off engine condensation, especially in a lot of stop/start traffic.

This mayo can be present in the dipstick tube on Rx8's that only run short journeys. Its caused by the fact that the short journey doesn't really get the engine hot enough to boil off mositure in the oil.

Mine has done this a couple of times through lack of use/short journeys but has never used a drop of coolant in 3 years!

Keep an eye on the coolant level to make sure it is not loosing any. Im not sure about your oil light - on my 231 it goes out instantly on start up and the coolant light has never come on while driving.

Have a look an here -lots of helpful people who can give advice!

If you are worried get it looked at.

wankels are a different animal to your normal piston engine. I've seen this on a few, your short journeys at low revs might just be the cause. I would recommend an oil change first and get the mechanic to assess the oil when it comes out. You can monitor it afterwards and make sure the car is driven properly at least once a week.
The engine has seals that can leak but you will normally get oil in the coolant too. And yes, there is no headgasket!!

Well as I said, I wasnt sure. But at least after confirmation, it can put his mind at rest that it isnt the problem, as there isnt one.

I'm not expert in rx8 's but it clearly has major problems, a water/oil cooler may have leaks, ie a laminova type. Or there is some form of seal between oil and water cooling in the engine which would require a engine rebuild I assume, get an experienced person to check the cooler by pressure testing, if it doesn't have that type it must be an internal engine jobbie. Good luck

im pretty sure the oil cooler dosent have water,,, if the rotor seals went would that cause this as its not smoking out the exhaust?

One of the o-ring seals on the housing or oils seals on the end of the rotor has gone at a guess, complete rebuild job.

I reckon he probably sorted the issue by now...
