my understanding is that althought the speakers in the Ro are 2 ohm if i replace the head unit and drive them all from an rca on a head unit through an amp i wont need to change the speakers as the headunit just sees a signal to the amps?

can anyone confirm or rubbish this?

Yes, in that setup the HU won't care, but your amp will need to be able to handle the 2 ohm spkrs. Also, you will need to consider that the (factory) subwoofer amp's input is paralleled off the rear side spkrs, that's if you intend to leave them in.
ps. it would be advisable to replace the factory spkrs as they are only about 15W - so a, for example, 100w/channel amp will prob destroy them if you turned up the vol.

how long did it take you in the end? is it just a sockets and screwdriver job? was the trim easy to come out etc?

I used 4 bamboo kebab sticks from kitchen drawer - stick 'em in the holes till you feel the clips release and pull HU out.

Giz a bit of a summary of what you have fitted. How did the ED subs go?

it should take you a full day if you have everything you wish to install in one go. trim was easy enough to remove. all you need is a cross head screw driver a flat blade screwdriver a torx socket piece (or a small enough flat blade and a star socket. dont forget a stubby cross head.

there is a nice removal guide in the FAQ's

i used 4 small screwdrivers. (watch makers work really well) push them in the holes. then push them out wards and then pull. and head unit comes out a treat..

well I have installed a clarion single din head unit in the front and 2 sets of kenwood 17CM speakers in the front doors and back panels. and 2 six inch Elemental Design subs in the rear shelf. powered by a 600Watt Fusion amp... (think the amp needs swapping out for more power)

subs fitted well just needed to make 2 6MM spacer plates to fit them in the back.

you will find if your fitting 17CM speakers in the front you will need adaptors. vectra ones work nicely for me. wink

does anyone know if the front tweeters are fed from the front speaker wires with a cross over installed? just i dont want to have to remove the tweeters i thought i would just leave them and disconnect them and put co-axials in the front doors?

The front tweeters are in parallel off the front door spkrs. The only Xover is a capacitor across the tweeter terminals - filters out low freqs.

so should be able to just disconnect the tweeters then as they wont appreciate 4 ohms!

I have disconnected mine as the component spkrs I have fitted in the front doors have separate tweeters.
