Some Photo's from Duxford 17/01/2009 (Lots of TSR-2!)
Discussion
Here are just some of the photo's i took today at Duxford, mostly of the TSR-2 they have there but also some of the other ongoing bits and peices. I have a couple of the new Airfix 1/48 TSR-2's on the way so thought i'd go and get a load of photos!! Was planning to see the other surviving example at Cosford tomorrow but with this weather tonight i may not make it
Anyways.....there is a lot of activity at the moment in the Fighter Collections hanger. Most of the airworthy fighters are up on jacks and having attention of one sort or another, getting them ready for the season ahead. Its interesting to see them with various panels removed so you can see exactly how they are built!!
The most interesting change to the Fighter Collection is the addition of a twin seat Hawker Sea Fury thats now sat alongside their long term restoration single seater Sea Fury. The twin seat is due i suspect as well for a full restoration. The P47 is coming along nicely as well as the Beaufighter.
Sally B is back up to four engines again now which is great to see. It also looks like she's been fully cleaned and now really is very tidy indeed!
Anyways on with the photo's !! Enjoy !!

Nice pics, like the Focke Wulf 190 and the Merlin engined 9I presume) ME109! I remember the TSR-2 from when I was a kid, I'll have to research its significance...
I haven't been to Duxford for years and there's no excuse as I pass it enough. I'd imagine the displays have changed a lot since I last visited.
Great pics1

Great photos! What settings were you using?
The TSR is stunning - absolute crime what happened to that project
Hi thereThe TSR is stunning - absolute crime what happened to that project
All the photo's were shot in RAW with aperture priority set to wide open. Camera body is a Canon 1D MKI, two lenses used, Canon 17-40F4.0L and a Canon 70-200F2.8L. All of the shots are handheld and taken at either 200 or 400 ISO. Even at max aperture this meant very low shutter speeds but I do have quite steady hands!!!
Just a few tweaks in Lightroom 2 when i got home, only white balance and exposure with a touch of sharpening. Nothing too major really.
Oh and none of the shots use flash!!! I'd rather handhold (or use monopod) and use available light with this sort of subject indoors. The results are so much more natural. Flash is really harsh and just doesnt look anywhere near as good.
To those of you interested in the TSR-2, you might like to know that the Airfix 1:48 scale limited edition model kit became available last week: http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/?FULL=AX10105
It is £27:42, but 56cm long!
