206 brakes help
Discussion
Hi im new here, was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to advise.
I'm 19 and in an average paying job with loads of stuff to pay so i dont have a lot of cash to spend. which i think is how i've ended up with this problem. i've got an 03 plate 206 1.4 and in october i took my car to kwik fit because i urgently needed my brakes doing, they told me i needed new discs and pads on front and new cylinders and shoes at the rear. i'm no mechanic or have a lot of knowledge about checking to see if they were bulls
tting me. so i just went for it. it cost me £270. since then i havn't thrashed at the brakes or anything, just general everyday use. in the past couple of days i've noticed that there is a squeeking noise whenever i apply the brakes. i dont know if its strange but there isn't a noise if i apply them hard, mainly just slowing down for traffic lights or something. as i said i cant afford to upgrade the brakes or anything, well i cant really afford a lot so i was wondering if someone could help or give any advice?
I've just had a new set of tyres put on but this wouldnt affect them would it?
Thanks

That's usually the first sign of pad (or shoe) wear. Light braking exposes the backing material or rivets but a firm press centres the friction material and stops the grinding.
Without a physical examination it's impossible to tell.
What I would say though is to check your wheel nuts are tight before you drive it again!

If the nuts are tight, then is it a case of taking it back to kwik-fit (where i have an apparent life long guarantee on the pads) and risk being stung for something else? or is there anything that i could possibly attempt to rectify/ease it?
If you're not confident enough to check for yourself then I'd let them have a look from a safety point of view. You've replaced three of the four friction components thus far so it shouldn't be them. I suspect your guarantee won't cover what's gone wrong this time though...Gassing Station | Suspension, Brakes & Tyres | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
