Well last week my contract at JLR was terminated, got 4 weeks notice but obviously no redundency pay.
I was pretty crushed at the time, not about the loss of money but because I loved my job.
Anywho I'm over "the hump" and looking for new jobs, everyone at JLR has been really supportive and surprised I have been terminated, nice to be appreciated.

The problem is the whole thing has really destroyed my motivation to do anything, it's understanable that my work rate has dropped a little (although I still have st loads to do before I go).
I can't be bothered doing anything - having a shave, cleaning my car, fixing the puncture, even playing X-Box...

I'm sat watching snooker, reading stuff on PH all day but looking out at the sunny day and my filthy car knowing I should clean it but just doing nothing to get-up.
I know I'm wasting my time but cannot be arsed to do anything productive.

Has anyone else experienced this and what can I do to regain some energy?

I've been in a similar position since the start of December as we were in a "maybe/maybe not" re redundancies.

I've struggled to get anything done for weeks. I don't think it's surprising and depending on your stress levels generally it may run on for some time.

On a practical point, give yourself a few days more to "wallow" and then pick a point where you start to be positive again. Sometimes misery is a habit.

Good luck

Gym and:

Regular time to go to bed and get up in the morning. Don't stay up all night watching TV, then get up at lunch time, that is the path to chavdom.

Sorry to hear about the job situation. frown

Can you get away for a few days?
I've been in a a similar position to the one you describe. Can't be bothered doing stuff, sat watching TV all day...

I find it helps if I go away for a few days in that situation and come back totally refreshed.

Were you a contractor type role or on a temporary contract?

Not nice when it happens.

You might find you just need a week or two of doing sod all to recharge your batteries though?

Sorry to hear that. Been in your position a few times.

Start looking for "stuff" you would really like but now can not afford!

Worked for me!

I took voluntary redundancy last week. I leave in May, and am already finding it a struggle to get up in the morning. Round the house I'm useless anyway, but I'll go with the others,....exercise. You'll feel like you've got 100 times more energy afterwards. Also, the lethargy will probably pass after a few days or a week, and you'll be back to your old self. Are you actively looking for a job at the mo?

I was contracted until December '09 but when loads of research projects were canned my contract was terminated.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I managed to get out and wash the S4 this afternoon.

I am actively looking for work but don't think anything will be sorted in the next 3 weeks.

I think I need to do the exercise thing once I stop working, I'll have to get the bike out every morning

The way i am looking at it is 'its only a job. for me it was a well paid job! but st happens and feeling sorry for myself isnt going to help!!
Go out get pissed then start looking for a new job.
I am surprised they are making you work your months notice. The damage you could do to the company!! yikes
It does sound like you have mild depression though, You could go and see your GP for some happy pills!
they might help.
I may see you in the dole que! do they still have them?

You're allowed to feel sorry for yourself.
Although redundancy isn't a personal thing, it's very hard not to take it personally.

Don't beat yourself up. Give yourself a week off.
Do write "things to do list" in the morning, doesn't have to be much just something to keep yourself occupied.
Get some of the jobs done that you never get round to.

What ever you do, don't waste your free time in here!!!!

You will probably be working again soon, you don't want to look back and think, " I had a few weeks off and wasted it"

Best of luck!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wasted about a month of doing nothing, but i had been working all the hours god sent and was so happy to catch up with everyone i had been ignoring for months do to my day being, get up, go to work, go home, eat, sleep.... rinse and repeat.

So i dont see it as a waste but as getting to know my friends again smile

Some points worth thinking about here. Personally I don't believe in depression though.

Been and had a couple of good nights out on the piss this weekend. It wasn't just a job to make money for me though, I really loved what I did.

And I have just realised that I will have to go to the dole scum office again, which was the single most soul destroying time of my life.

And yes selling some company secrets has been tempting, I could easily write a couple of pages for PH about whats going on at JLR at the moment.... But I'de love to go back one day and also I don't want to be prosecuted.

I agree although my thing has been long walks rather than jogging. I've taken in the local park, forests, hills etc, but even walking down to the next town for a haircut or to the supermarket certainly makes you feel refreshed. I was made redundant on December 3rd and didn't get back to work until 10 days ago! Keep the motivation up, there are jobs out there to be had!

It could be worse, it's when girls you used to go to school with start ignoring you, that's when you know you are really in trouble.
