I got caught by a traffic car (merc) on the M73 or is it the M74 near Dumfries, Scotland.

I live in the Nottingham and travel south alot so it was nice to take my new motor out for a long drive across a road with virtually no traffic on it at all. It was the first chance I had to give it some poke. I was cruising at between 110 - 135MPH quite safely as their was no traffic on the road - you could see for miles in front of you (good for plod spotting) - and the weather conditions were good.

I was told that I was going to be sent a letter within 6 weeks explaining what the CPS or Police intended to do about it - the copper was sound enough and told me I would probably get due care which would be 6 points plus fine...worst case would be dangerous driving then it would be a case of begging to keep my license. I produced at my local Police station as requested

That was now almost 5 months ago and I havent heard a thing. Can anyone actually tell me what the law is regarding how long the plod have to contact me about such an offence?

I had a very entertaining and pleasant converstation with a BiB after a perambulation well in excess of 100mph in more southern latitudes. I waited and waited and waited for the dreaded paper to arrive. It didn't.

I assumed, incorrectly, they were trying to find a book large enough to throw at me. Eventually, as the suspense was affecting my ability to put the right foot anywhere near accelerator I phoned the constabulary concerned and found they didn't know anything about it. It does happen..

I wish you luck.

Tempting fate a bit posting here isn't it?!

I know a couple of people who've been pulled by plod (f'narr, f'narr) and have had to wait 4 or 5 months to receive a summons, so it's not _that_ unusual.

Wishing you good luck though mate, they are prone to cocking up as we all know!

I was in a similar position, got caught by a traffic car at 122mph in December, I actually got to the end of May before I heard anything (was getting quite optimistic by this time!).

How did they catch you?

IIRC they have six months to ISSUE the summons (so give it a few days for the post to come through before you celebrate).

Six months to prepare and present the summons to the court and then anything up to a few years to serve it (it's either 3 or 6, I can't remember which), so you've got a while to sweat yet!

They had reversed up the side of a bridge so the only way i could have seen them is by looking in my mirror and by then it would have been to late

My summons came at 5 months 3 1/2 weeks! Literally three days before the time limit expired.
