Fuel pump relay ?
Discussion
Hi Guys,
The last time I tried to turned the car over, a few months back, the fuel pump didn't prime. Instead there were a few 'clicks' that came from the passenger footwell. The car would then turn over but not start.
At the time I couldn't investigate further, but recent posts on similar issues suggest it might be the fuel pump relay. Now.... I'm away from my car and can't check the relay or it's product code, but I will be able to work on it this coming weekend. I've found a new relay online (part number M0124), but before I order it can anyone confirm that this is the likely problem or is there another usual suspect?
In addition, and this is a bit of an odd one..... Initially when the fuel pump didn't prime I wondered if it might be an immobiliser issue. So I got out the car, locked it and unlocked it again to see if this cancelled the problem. Did this a few times and on at least two locking attempts the alarm set (indicators flashed), but the door solenoids didn't activate. On unlocking both solenoids activated. I'm guessing that since the failure of the solenoids was on both doors simultaneously, and then they both worked again simultaneously, it's not likely to be the solenoids themselves, but what else could it be ? All the other car electrics (int. fan, lights, indicators, wipers boot release etc.) were working fine.
Cheers

I think you can rule the pump relay out by bypassing it, but does sound like it? did you try pressing the inertia cut of switch to reset? ( can think why but it may have actuated ).The last time I tried to turned the car over, a few months back, the fuel pump didn't prime. Did yu try starting again when the alarm did open properly? I am guessing ( again) that maybe the plipper in your key fob may be on its way out as it hasnt been used much I am presuming as the car has been off the road for a while. And how long since they were changed last?

Thanks BB,
I didn't think about the inertia cut out switch, I'll check that at the w/e, but aside from a malfunction I can't see a reason why it would have actuated !?!
At the time I couldn't investigate properly as I was only there for a few hours and didn't have the 'bible' with me to refer too. I did try starting the car after each locking and unlocking, but the result was the same... no priming and just a series of clicks coming from the fuse box area.
The batteries in the key fob could well be low (only been used two or three times a year, or when ever I can get back), though it's odd that on pressing the button it would activate the alarm but not the door solenoids. But when I pressed the key fob button again to unlock the solenoids would work and the alarm would deactivate as normal ?!?!
Since it seems likely that it is the fuel pump relay that is stopping the car starting, is there any relay/fuse that could be causing the door locks to behave oddly ?!

Had this a few times recently. Most recent last week. Turns out the wire that goes from the relay to the pump passes through the access flap just behind the passenger seat. It has a join there too........
The bloomin join had come apart. Pushed it back together, happy days.
First time I think it was the immobiliser. I set the alarm off & re-set it & it worked.
These are just opportunities to get to know your car a bit better.

Known to corrode too as it can get damp in there

Pretty sure the battery is fine. It's kept on trickle charge while I'm away and had no problems turning over each time after the clicks from the passenger footwell had finished.
The more I think about it the more Im convinced (hoping
) that the fuel pump issue is the relay. Its been ordered, but if it turns out not to be the problem then it'll be another spare to add to the collection.
I'll check the wire behind the passenger seat too.
I'm still puzzled by the door locking thing though?!?! But who knows?! maybe it'll clear itself
Cheers for the advice

Best made plans and all ?!
Fuel pump relay arrived, took it down South with me to my car. Forgot my multimeter to test the original relays. Got to the car to find the power to the trickle charger had been disconnected for an unknown period of time and battery as flat as a pancake. No battery charger at my folks place to even attempt to re-charge the battery. Took a look at the relays anyway but I'm not sure which of the two is the fuel pump relay ?

Would the fuel pump relay be the black or blue connector ?
Having just looked at the lucus ecu pdf on a neighbouring thread I'm guessing that either relay could be causing the problem ? Or maybe one of the inline fuses (5,3 and 10 Amp) ? I didn't notice any fuses on the ecu loom, are they easy to get to ?
