SUPERCHARGED MONARO 6.0
Discussion
Ive had the car for 2 days now and im not overly impressed with the performance its meant to be 510bhp. I had an astra vxr 280 bhp and its not any quicker than that . I wonder if i was expecting to much from the monaro or is there a problem, for instance is the traction control holding the car back, im not sure . Any thoughts ?

What type of supercharger?
being a little unrealistic in expectations at normal road speeds if coming from such a fast astra - the difference in the 0-60 time is likely to be only fractions of a second, the difference is when you actually get some speed up, the monaro will pull like a train all the way to 180 ish, try tootling along at 60-70 and then drop a couple of gears and floor it - private road/racetrack only of course, see if you still think its no better than the astra. I believe from what I've read on here the Harrop charger you have really doesnt come into its own until you get the revs up a bit, the magnachargers pull from lower in the rev range but peak at a lower rpm as well. Sure someone will correct me if I got that wrong. If you really want to accelerate quicker a diff change to the 3.9 ratio will help but will reduce your Vmax potential and to get the power down with more control and less wheelspin the racelogic traction control system will help as will wider wheels/tyres and theres people on here been there done that with most of this technology that can give good advice on how to avoid mistakes.

Happy to check it over for you, though if memory serves, your not near! Give me a call tomorrow if you want to discuss the car. Is it a black one from Manchester??
Im inclined to agree with well fans that your expectation maybe higher than reality. 0-60, given the grip levels is not going to destroy a 280bhp Astra. As suggested, once in its stride however, the balance will be firmly in the monaros favour.

in persepective my standard VXR 6.0 is quicker than a ASTRA VXR especially above legal limits (on private roads of course) the power is delivered alot differently on the Monaro to something like an astra which is Turbo charged. My brother 250bhp 200sx Feels loads quicker but i can assure you it isnt!

Is it intercooled? Temps might be causing you a problem. Just a thought.
Yep, if you are measuring around town in traffic heatsoak is a major issue. On the dyno SC cars have read anywhere from ~380rwhp up to 500.In the right conditions they can perform well.... Too fussy for me, hence I took a different route for power.

Id agree with others, forget 0-60 times in this weather, get it up to 80 odd and try accelerating in 4th or 5th, it should just pull like a train. As for heat soak, its unlikely in this weather although watch it in the summer.
The reason I had my engine done was because at 520ish fwhp (say 400 whp) it felt slow once I'd gotten used to it. As regards the comments about the Magnacharger, at the time mine pulled like a train from 2000rpm - 4500rpm but ran out of puff above that.
Since then I've taken the same blower an put it the same stroked/forged engine this time with headers, heads and a cam shaft. Let me tell you there is no comparison - power has gone up to ~530 whp (660 fwhp) while torque is in excess of 670lbs through nearly all the rev range. The result is the car now has the ability to scare the sh*t out of me and is about twice as fast as anything else on the road. It goes back in a couple of weeks for the new pulley and then I'll be looking at 600 whp
The morale of the story is if you want to unleash the full potential of your engine you need to spend money on making sure it can breathe. Assuming you already have headers I would add a decent blower cam and some heads, then wind your boost up to 12psi. Finally, get it set up on a rolling road and you will be looking at > 500whp which feels proper quick.
