x type engine replacment

doing this for a friend, hes gone and buggerd his power pack ( 3.0 v6 manul) at 60k, just got it 2k ago and the warrenty is up,the oil has dissapeard somehow lol ( light never came on) and the bottom end is away( loud noise that got worse within the week) and hes been told its gonna be a new 1, hes gutted having lost days at his job due to the "crunch" and hes strapped for cash just now, so im just wonderin g if anyone knows how much its likely to be( used pack), and fitted? and wheres good to get 1 from( any numbers)? and how much its likly to be for a rebuild and whats the best alround option? thanks guys
