For those who understand, you will appreciate this. For those who don't....who gives a damn? thumbup

1. Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he's too old to fight, he'll just kill you.

2. If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

3. I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.

4. When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away.

5. A reporter did a human-interest piece on the Texas Rangers. The reporter recognized the Colt Model 1911 the Ranger was carrying and asked him 'Why do you carry a 45?' The Ranger responded, 'Because they don't make a 46.'

6. The old sheriff was attending an awards dinner when a lady commented on his wearing his sidearm. 'Sheriff, I see you have your pistol. Are you expecting trouble?' 'No Ma'am. If I were expecting trouble, I would have brought my shotgun.'

7. Beware the man who only has one gun. HE PROBABLY KNOWS HOW TO USE IT!!!

But wait, there's more!

I was once asked by a lady visiting if I had a gun in the house. I said I did. She said 'Well I certainly hope it isn't loaded!' To which I replied, 'Of course it's loaded – it doesn't work without bullets!' She then asked, 'Are you that afraid of someone evil coming into your house?' My reply was, 'No, not at all. I'm not afraid of the house catching fire either, but I have fire extinguishers around, and they're all loaded, too.' To which I'll add, having a gun in the house that isn't loaded is like having a car in the garage without gas in the tank.

And Remember:

If guns kill people, then:

1) Pencils mis pel words
2) Cars make people drive drunk
3) And spoons made Rosie O'Donnell fat!

Not much I can add to this except "He who shoots second loses!"

As a registered gun owner and shooter I have only this to ask?

Why the hell is such a bad idea to actually have a record of who buys a gun? Of making guns harder to have access to?

Very good Jimbeaux biggrin I liked the 45/46

Colonial - get a life - it's the most depressing day of the year (officially) and someone from the colonies has come up with something genuinely amusing and appealing to international humor (see, I spelled it just that way for him). It's wet enough over here today without you putting a further wet blanket on it.
IT WAS A JOKE!

It all tied up with the difference between a right and a privilege.
eg driving is a privilege.
There are so few rights left it is not good to lose any of them.

Not to mention that a record is kept by the government on all sold weapons, even between private persons. The criminals, however, don't bother with that.

Gun ownership is not a right in the US. Rights are universal, gun ownership, even in the US, is conditional.

Surely by having a record of all legal gun transactions, you then know for certain that any gun not on that list is definitely held by a criminal which is far better than the current system where you have no idea either way?

And there's the crux of the matter, the world over. No matter how many permits/records are applied to the law abiding citizen, until gun control covers the criminal fraternity effectively, there is no gun control

I thought Jimbeaux WAS describing the current situation. Maybe I'm wrong though.

"Than the current system"? That is the current system, all sold or otherwise transacted weapons are recorded. Do you think they are just handed over without the proper background check?

True. Realistically, criminals always find a way around it. Therefore, realistically, we find it better to keep weapons too. "When they outlaw guns, only outlaws will have them".

How about this one:

Criminals commit gun crime offenses with illegal guns. Thats how it works.

You don't need to rule out law abiding people with legal guns because the chances are that it wasn't them that robbed the bank in the first place. wink

yes

Effectively banning guns sure hasn't helped South Africa much. But do keep that in mind, it's a great way to shut the anti-gun left wing zealots up.

And since there is no gun control, they (police, government,..) can only target the known owners (which are all law abiding citizens) of firearms to tie down their policies and laws... (Hungerford, Dunblame)

The criminals on the other hand, are not targeted and are running less and less the risk of being confronted with equal fire power when involved in certain criminal activities.

When statistics are released in the UK about the amount of “guns” that have been taken off the streets, how many of those are just slots been taken away from legally held Fire Arms Certificates – or were just air weapons? The media doesn’t help with blowing things up (pardon the pun) to dramatise events and increase sales (obviously).
